With everyone walking around with a cell phone you would think fires would be reported sooner. I guess the fires are now called in when the fire is out the windows or through the roof. Or maybe they wait so when it's through the roof the video would be more impressive.

Still interested to know if traffic and a barricaded 34th ave. caused a delay in response time to the Queens 8 alarm. The fire building was located on 34th ave. where the streets are barricaded to stop traffic for about 20 blocks. Many surrounding avenues have increased traffic due to the closure. Part of the NYC Open Street Program started during the pandemic.

I would bet it had too cause delays....it does on a regular basis let alone Fire traffic of that magnitude....but you won't hear them saying anything .

I know. It seemed odd that they came out with two reasons, two days apart, as to why the fire grew so big.
Granted, leaving the door open to the apartment lead to issues. If it's true that nobody called it in until 10 minutes after the fire started that is another problem. I still have family in the neighborhood and I know first hand how bad the traffic has become when 34th ave. is closed.

Like to check the bldg cards for those two bldgs. Cornices don't look original, usually indicates previous top floor front/cockloft fire. That is IF officer, that worked fire, entered it on card.😏

Wonder if they’ll end up knocking down that short row of frames after this job and put up a new ugly fireproof building...
