Sorry to get blunt, but rename "DGEIS (Draft Generic Environmental Impact Statement)" to "Pure BS".

My Thoughts:
Odd, (perhaps); that your 'All that glitters is Gold' article mentions Little-to-None of the fantastic Multi-Billion Dollar give-aways by
NYC/NYS to franchise this gilded Playground for Modern Oligarchs. As well as the ineffective response by these same officials ( Sen. Schumer et. al.) in the way of NYPD, FDNY, EMS, and other Community Services needed to ensure Public Safety.  jw

Food Truck fire at W30 Street @ 10 Avenue earlier today. Right at corner of Hudson yards. Sent black smoke into air. Looked like 34/21 handled it.

Nothing "odd" about it, STAjo - you're spot on.

A EMS Gator has been assigned to Hudson Yards, not sure of the details.

WHOOPIE!!!  The city has solved the problem in the most cost-efficient way!

Now, does anyone wish to comment on the most EFFECTIVE way?

How much money has Bloomberg, Inc. and its owners made from this disaster?

The politicians need to see it as a cost of doing business. I don?t know why they can?t see it in simple terms. An area gets developed bringing in thousands of people and potentially millions in tax revenue. Some of that revenue needs to be spent which protects the property owners investments which protects the tax revenue. Adding a new station with an engine, truck, ambulance and possibly a BC is a small price to pay to insure the revenue continues to flow into the city from that area. these need to be new Company?s, other Company?s May need to be relocated to provide better coverage but the city should not expect to generate more tax revenue and be able to not have to spend some of it on FD/EMS/PD

The city did see it as a cost of doing business.  They provided a school, day care, extended the 7 line and built a subway station, for example.
The land use taxes that pay for public safety are the ones that often get deferred for development.
Resident sales and income taxes do not get deferred and are not applied to fixed property because people can move and land does not.

The city improvements were spelled out years ago.  No fire station at the time.

"The Proposed Action would require new elementary and intermediate school capacity serving the Project Area. The Proposed Action is expected to increase the number of children eligible for publicly funded day care, which could have a significant adverse impact on local publicly funded day care centers. The Proposed Action would increase the demand for services provided by public or publicly funded community facilities. It is anticipated that in 2010 the No. 7 Subway Extension, the Convention Center Expansion, the Multi-Use Facility . . ."

Fire stations have been incorporated into commercial buildings at the developer's expense.  There are several in NYC.
