That rig was formerly assigned to L117 and was given to L54 when the company was established in the "new" quarters with E96 on Story Ave. That was 1965? Jeez I was there for the firehouse dedication and can't remember the year. (Don't say it guys, I know.)

LAD*38 1956 ALF.. the photo was proabably taken mid to late '60s since the plywood covering is in place......    http://www.ebay.com/itm/FDNY-4x-6-Photo-ALF-Ladder-38-/271228145083?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3f26750dbb
The 1956 ALF in the photo was previously L47's rig. It was L38's then went to L49 when L38 got a 1969 100 ft. ALF diesel rig. Before the '56, Ladder 38 had a 1953 ALF that was involved in a bad MVA around 1964. The tractor was totalled and the trailer was re-hitched to a 1948 Ward LaFrance tractor and assigned to the Training School on Welfare (Roosevelt today) Island. Regarding the photo: It was taken between 1967 & 1969 across the street from Ladder 17's quarters on 143rd St. The NYCHA Mott Haven Houses buildings behind it are 352 & 380 E. 143rd St.

L54 got the 1960 Mack C85F 85' tractor-drawn  Maxim aerial on 4-13-66 when they were organized on Story Ave.  They had that rig until 12-3-70 when they received a new Seagrave rearmount.  That was a good ten years work before FDNY had term limits on their rigs.

Some old pictures I recently acquired from my father - his great-uncle Lindgren most probably took these pictures - dated 1952.....

I have more, just need to get good copies of them.... :)

They look nice. Hope you can put more up for all to enjoy and remember back then. Thanks.

The album is in the hands of someone from the NYS Museum to have the photos copied and digitized...I will then share away!  I am also waiting on photos of an old scrapbook I have, with TONS of material dating back into the 1800's regarding the Volunteer Firemans' Association of New York City!
