The "26" slide might have been at a Staten Island relocation? The '60 Ward slide shows a canopy over the "back step" indicating maybe the shot was taken in the very late 60's or early 70's. G-Man, are you sure 272 had a used Ward? I always remember them with a "CF" Mack.

Being that it's in Corona it might be Engine 325. That would be the closest company that had one of these rigs.

According to F.A.J.'s Ward LaFrance book: shop #5931 started out as E209 then was reassigned to E272

Sure looks like #154 but it must be E164's 1951 WLF (shop #2603) parked just a few feet east of E165/L85 firehouse. I'm looking at a photo of that rig where they had the number "6" a little off-center closer to the "1" than the "4", it had a forward facing deck gun (most 1951 WLF deck guns faced to the rear), I see the two extinguishers together on the driver's side and a metal bar to keep brush fire equipment from falling off the rear quarter running board. There were only three 1951 Wards assigned to Staten Island: E163, 164 and a 3rd one was reassigned to E161 (ex-E296) in 1961 to replace their WLF Quad. I'm pretty sure E154 never had a "51 Ward unless it was a spare. From WWII to 1971, E154 ran with a 1937 Mack 1000gpm then a 1958 Mack C-95 1000gpm and a couple of hosewagons.

I remember that rig. It was the '41 Mack that was replaced by a brand new 1960 Ward LaFrance "Firebrand" pumper. Just a little more trivia, the building to the right was "The Rendezvous" tavern which was right on the n/w corner of 120 street & 14th Road. Many "1 quick beer" was had there after a 9x6 back in the day.
