Chief, you're really to be congratulated for your efforts in honoring the departed.  Grand work by a true gentleman.

Richie was on 82's back step 70-73 before crossing the floor to 31. Always dependable, tough piece of work. Suffered terribly the last few years, is now at peace. May the good Lord comfort his family and may he Rest in Peace. Was always a pleasure.

I also eco those words.

Although I didn't know these firefighters, I watched them work. No other group of firefighters that I know of did what they did. Hence the term "FDNY War Years" came about.

With all of these names listed, EVERY ONE of THEM paid their share as a firefighter with the City of New York. During the most chaotic time of fire activity in the history of this country.

So many firefighters later were able to learn from the experience of these War Years Firefighters.

As they pass on to a higher level, I know that "I won't forget what they did". I know of others as well who also feel the same way, because they saw them work too.

I too am very grateful for the work that "68jk09" has done here in never forgetting those that served. I consider it an honor to personally know him and other FDNY War Years Firefighters who served during that time as well.

Thank you Chief JK for the job you have done in remembering those who have served during that time. Who today, sadly are leaving us as time goes on.

In closing, I want to assure ALL, that many who saw these FDNY War Years Firefighters, will NEVER forget them.

May they all Rest in Peace and NEVER be FORGOTTEN.

I'll add my thanks to Chief JK for taking the time to remember the members who have left us. Each man is part of the history and tradition of the FDNY and were part of an unparalled time in the FDNY. The rememberance of their passing and the stories that are shared about their lives and deeds give an insight into the "War Years" for those who weren't around to experience those years.

OBIT FOR ACTIVE FF JEFFREY WALLEN.... http://www.silive.com/obituaries/index.ssf/2015/11/jeffrey_wallen_37.html

We have recently lost three legends from "The War Years": Capt Tim Gallagher, BC Larry Lee and F/F William Ostrander. You have to stop and acknowledge these men and all the men who served during that period, those who have passed and those who are still with us. It is men like these who have made the FDNY the greatest.
Rest in Peace to the departed. Continued thoughts and prayers for you. Thank You to those who are still here. Thoughts and prayers for you as well.
And may your stories continue to be told, over and over again, so we may always know what you did, what you lived through and never forget what you accomplished.
