It saddens me every time I come on here to read Another War Years Vet passes. The list here continues to grow as I read another three names added within the last 24 hours. Everyone of them a part of the GREATEST GENERATION of FIREFIGHTERS - who proved themselves over and over again, working under the toughest conditions any group of firefighters were ever up against.

Many of us buffs still talk about how GREAT these guys were. Many of us watched and learned from them as they did their jobs. Many of those buffs are now retired firefighters themselves. Some attaining promotions within their own fire departments because of some of what they learned from watching and talking to these firefighters. And those who watched and learned, taught others who today, many are leaders and high ranking officers within their own fire departments as well.

These Greatest Firefighters not only gave so much to the citizens of New York for the work they did, but they also gave so much to so many OUTSIDE of New York City within the fire departments and the cities they served as well.

How do you measure or thank someone for so much they gave ? They not only served their purpose as the busiest and most experienced firefighters ever in the history of the FDNY, but "indirectly" they served their purpose in helping so many others to do the job of firefighters and saving lives beyond that of NYC.

THANK YOU and May They ALL Rest in Peace.
