The top photo is from 1913 pump test of two 1913 Nott 500gpm piston pumpers. Both were assigned to Staten Island companies. One to E160 and the other went to E156. E156's was wrecked in a MVA in 1914.

The middle 3 photos are of a pump test of six 1917 Robinson 700gpm pumpers. The bottom photo has me stumped. In fact, it might have been something the department was trying out but never bought.

Box 383 - 1560 Castleton Ave.
Engineer of Steamer Doran was killed & 4 other members of Eng.156 were injured when the apparatus crashed into a tree in front of 1560 Castleton Ave. Engine 156 had just received their motorized apparatus just 2 weeks earlier & were responding to a fire in Port Richmond. Doran was crushed between the rear of the machine & side of the house. His skull & almost every bone in his body were broken. (NYC Fire Wire)

It is interesting to note that in the opening roll call scene at Engine 261, the Officer has a pentagon-shaped presentation plaque on the rear of his helmet. This was similar to FDNY badges of the time. More common in later years were the oval shaped presentation plaques.

DEPUTY CHIEF BERNARD F. CARLOCK DIVISION 4 November 29, 1930
Deputy Chief Bernard Carlock, Divison 4, lost his life at a 2nd alarm fire in a vacant tenament at 7-13 E 106th Street after being overcome by smoke. He was treated by Dr. Archer at the fire location and transported to 5th Avenue Hospital, where he passed away. The vacant tenement was the scene of several previous fires.
Chief Carlock had almost been killed years earlier on February 27, 1907 at a 2nd alarm basement fire in a store at 573 8th Avenue. Foreman (Captain) Carlock, Engine 26 - 1st due engine, was advancing a line to the back of the store and then down stairs into the basement with two Engine 26 members, FF Adam Damm and FF Harry Baker. They were overcome by ammonia fumes and smoke when they reached the basement. Foreman Carlock tried to carry FF Damm out of the basement but was overcome and lost consciousness. FF Damm and FF Baker lost their lives but Foreman Carlock was rescued by Ladder 4 and recovered.

Battalion 25 has had numerous assignments city wide. It began as a land battalion in the former Brooklyn Fire Department. It moved to Manhattan after the Brooklyn battalions were renumbered. It was then assigned as the Marine Battalion (25) when the Marine Battalion (19) number was assigned to a land battalion in the Bronx. The Marine Battalion was no longer numbered when the Marine Engine Fireboats became Marine units. Battalion 25 returned as a land battalion in Manhattan in the 1970's thru 1980's.mack said:

As a kid i spent much time in the 111 St FH ....my Father was in 43 & we lived not too far away...i used to get my hair cut in the barbershop that was directly across the street right next to Loiusa's which was a small candy/convenience store .....the FH had a key & were allowed to go in after hours & make purchases on the honor system....she remained there for many years....there was a picture of her in the LAD*43 Centennial book....the regular Rig they had then that i rode on often was a '53 ALF 85' Tiller totally uncovered.... years later the '63 Seagrave pictured in the previous post above turned over on the East River Drive at 106 St...there was an old amusement pier there & during a Fire they had attempted to bridge the drive with aerial to get a line across & the ladder collapsed.
