Battalion 52 LODD:

    FIREFIGHTER THOMAS F. MAHER BATTALION 52 September 3, 1956

       

        Thomas F. Maher was a Fireman assigned to Battalion 52 as the Aide to Chief Mullin. He transferred from the 49th Battalion on June 17, 1953. He entered the Department on November 24, 1930 and was assigned to Ladder 115. He died on September 3, 1956 and it was determined to be in the line of duty on March 14, 1957 by the Board of Trustees of the Fire Department Pension Fund.

Flushing:

    On October 10, 1645, Flushing was established on the eastern bank of Flushing Creek under charter of the Dutch West India Company and was part of the New Netherland colony. The settlement was named after the city of Vlissingen, in the southwestern Netherlands, the main port of the company.

That coupling in the photo was from the January, 1967 Jamaica Gas Leak and Explosion described in Replies # 807 and # 808. It was on display during our recent get Together on May 11th.

Retired Chief Bob Manson (*******) on here allowed us to display it. Chief Manson was working as a Firefighter at the time with Ladder Co 127. You can see the force of the explosion actually bent this solid brass coupling.
