Great job, had the pleasure of working there, great Firefighters and Fire Officers passed through Webster Ave. Thanks to Mike, Matt Daly and others for their outstanding photos, documenting the Brothers at work....... #2875, top photos are DC Tom Neville (RIP)....a great man and a pleasure to work with!

^^^^ Yes I think willy did it after the Northeast photo was taken...in fact when he was at Maggie Mays one evening he had paint splatter on his shirt.

Engine 48 former firehouse 2504 Webster Avenue collapse - 1990s. I think Turk132 also had a few fires in vacant firehouse before collapse.

Gentlemen, apparently we have a "Willy D Impersonator" out there. The Red paint saying: "Willy D - NFD" is NOT mine. Maybe he wanted to be just like the Original Willy D, but he just couldn't cut it. It's not the first time it's happened, so this is NO SURPRISE to me.

Yes, it's TRUE, I was at Maggie Mays and Yes, I did spill ketchup on my shirt that night.

Yes, it is also TRUE that I was on the scene of that Second Alarm they had in that former Engine 48 Firehouse. And yes, maybe back then, Turk 182 of Engine 48, saw me there.

But without a doubt in my mind, I am NOT the guy who wrote "Willy D - NFD" on that cinder block wall of the front of that former firehouse.

I also strongly believe that we SHOULD have a full investigation into who it was that actually wrote that.

At some point after E48 moved to their new qtrs. - the old qtrs. was used by a Salvage Unit (3?) - as a newly promoted Lt., my 1st assignment was a 2 week detail to that Salvage Unit - "What a Pleasure" (wink, wink)

That building looks like a strong breeze would take it down! Hard to believe it stood that long.

^^^^^^ That is a good thing.....something like that is TRUE FDNY HISTORY & could not be duplicated.....imagine the BROTHERS & the numerous Rigs that passed under that engraved stone.

Battalion 42 covers largely residential, southwestern Brooklyn. The area was once the Town of New Utrecht and today has the neighborhoods of Bensonhurst, Bath Beach and Fort Hamilton. The battalion was organized as the 12th District of the Brooklyn Fire Department in 1896, and transitioned into the FDNY as the 12th Battalion Brooklyn. (There was also a 12th Battalion in Manhattan.) Upon renumbering in 1898, it became the original Battalion 32 and was renumbered into the present day Battalion 42 in 1906.

Yes "8060rock", aka Dan K., the part you mention about the Salvage Unit - "What a Pleasure" (wink, wink), I've heard that before from others as well.

Not quite like the Fire Patrol Units as I've been told. In fact I know a few guys who worked among the various F.P. units. A lot went on to become career firefighters and officers.

Maybe "mack" and "fdhistorian" can do a history on both The Fire Patrol Units and the Fire Salvage Units, their differences, etc., if they haven't been done before.

It's been done by 'mack' on the pages of his 'FDNY-and-NYC-Firehouses-and-Fire-Companies' threads (1st and 2nd sections).

For everything you might want to know about the Fire Patrol:

(also pages 1, 2, 19, 37, 45)

(also pages 8, 12, 32)

For everything you might want to know about the Model Cities Salvage:

(also pages 22
, 24, 36)

(also 8, 10, 37, 38, 43, 60)

'Johnny Gage' also reminisced about a detail to the Salvage Unit in 'Glory Days'
