I'm not sure of the date 227 moved to Ralph Ave. but both them and 214 moved off Herkimer St. around the same time. E214 & L111 in the Halsey St. FH was a nightmare, you should have seen how close the apparatus's were together, there was barely enough room between the Engine & Truck and just enough room between the Engine and the staircase going upstairs.
The old L-111 house on Halsey St. was so tight that E214's Ahrens-Fox HP1000gpm (aka: Rolls Royce of fire apparatus) didn't fit so they had to swap rigs with E222, getting E222's 1920's American LaFrance :(.

I spent some time @ 495 Hancock w/ that crew in 88 - 89. All I can say is:
That House is appropriately Named !
Everyone was Great, we had a blast, caught a couple of AH's, 1 Quick 2nd .

I relocated to E 214 on Hancock Street sometime in the late 60s when riding with E 248.  We couldn't in the building but were saved when L 132 relocated to L 111, threw a ladder up to a second floor window, and let everybody in.  LOL

BFD L 6 LODD- June 22, 1884 - Lt Jonathan Tyack (L 6 BFD) and Firemen George W. Haight (detailed L 6 BFD)

Birth:  Apr., 1835
Death:  Jun. 22, 1884
Brooklyn
Kings County
New York, USA

"The fire started when a hot brick from one of the ovens on the second floor of Herseman's Bakery dropped to the floor below. It landed in the stable, igniting some hay. The fire gained headway before it was noticed. Workers went into the stables to release the forty-four horses but were driven back by the flames. Thirty-three of the horses were released, eleven were killed. Acting Foreman Jonathan Tyack and Fireman Stephen Allen and Firemen George W. Haight were ordered to add another section of hose to the line operating in the rear of the bakery. The three men entered the alleyway between the fire building and the adjoining building with the extra hose. The four walls of the building swayed before the roof fell in, pushing the walls out and burying the helpless firemen. Acting Foreman Tyack was found under six feet of bricks with his skull crushed. Fireman Haight was found badly burned. Fireman Allen was injured but escaped with only a broken leg when he was thrown into a doorway and through the door of the next building. Acting Foreman Tyack and Fireman Haight both lived on Meserole Avenue in the Greenpoint section of Brooklyn. Acting Forman Tyack was forty-five years old, was married and the father of four children. Fireman Haight lost his wife several weeks earlier; they left three children orphaned. The fire from the time it was discovered until the building collapsed was less than fifteen minutes."

Past additional uses of former firehouse:
St Sebastian RC Church: "Masses were also offered in the Woodside volunteer Hook and Ladder Company #3 House on 39 Avenue, which later served as the American Legion Hall and is now a Korean church...Of special note is the founding of the first fire company in Woodside, the Hook and Ladder Company in 1878, with William Cameron, a member of an old local family, as its first foreman. The firehouse bell, originally cast for an East River steamboat named the Sylvan Dell, became the church bell of the original St. Sebastian Church and now is proudly ensconced in front of the rectory."

Citizens Engine Company 1/Amicitia H&L 1 -  volunteer fire companies - 3 firehouses - Princes Bay SI

Organized - unknown date (approx. late 1800s-1900)
    Disbanded - 1937

Workers from SS White Dental Works factory formed these two volunteer fire companies to provide fire protection for the Pleasant Plains/Princes Bay sections of SI.  They responded to alarms from Mt Loretto-Tottenville to Annadale.  The responses were made with equipment pulled by hand or by horses, until motorized in the 1920s.  Alarms were sounded by a whistle at SS White.  Both companies disbanded in 1937 when Engine 164 and Ladder 84 were organized in Huguenot.

  - closed as manufacturing facility in 1972
  - converted to a Factory Center trade mart and discount outlet center which proved to be unsuccessful
  - closed in 1982
  - vacant buildings were location of many fires for Bn 23 units
  - 2nd alarm suspicious fire caused remaining buildings to be razed in 1986
