I remember those days of the Arson as well.

In fact, nobody knew it at the time, but some of those arsonist would hang out at a buff site called "Whip City". Later many of us learned why they would always leave just shortly before a serious fire and always be the first guys on the scene.

Just a terrible, tragic, and dangerous time for the citizens and firefighters of the City of Boston and those surrounding towns. Little did the buffs (sparks) know that many of their friends and firefighters themselves would eventually be charged with this Arson Spree.

Arson big in NYC and most other cities in the 1970s and 1980s.  "Gasoline Gomez"  was infamous.  Many, many other arsonists burned the city down - some known, most unknown and most un-caught.

Many areas in the city - S Bronx, Bushwick, Brownsville, E New York - were incinerated night after night, in spite of new fire companies, second sections, tower ladders, Tin House, Rapid Water.

As usual "Mack" got all the fact on the Boston arson ring correct. These guys were bitching about the lay-offs and closing of companies. Well the lay-offs went to the younger guys, and the older guys who were now in the slower houses ended up in the busy houses where they suffered serious injuries. I believe several were pensioned off due to injuries they received from this spree of fires.

Ladder 10 used to go to Ladder 103 every early evening for about 5 to 6 hours and was called Ladder 193 if my memory serves me correctly. The powers to be tried many things to keep the almighty numbers down.

prior to L-10's disbanding at the end of 1975 it would interchange Friday nites with L-11.When there one evening I heard talk about making L-10  second section of L-11 positioning the apparatus in the space behind E-28 . Needless to say that the rumor-mill that told me that that evening circa 1974 was wrong.

Wasn't there a Manhattan engine (maybe E6 or E10) that was also deployed to East N.Y. Engine 225? ???
Yes ENG*10 for a period went to ENG*225 in the old qtrs on Liberty Ave & Ashford St until around the time 332 was established there....also 193 at 103 was LAD*10 but at times LAD*15 was used.

Anyone interested in the early history of the volunteer firemen in lower Manhattan in the 1800's should get a copy of "As You Pass By" published in 1952 by Kenneth H. Dunshee, it's pretty interesting.

When that book was released all members of the FDNY received one courtesy of some insurance company. At the last pages of the book was photos of Manhattan firehouses that were active at the time of publishing. Wish I knew where mine went after all of these years.

I believe Ladder 133 was added in 1998 due to the increased amount of fire activity in that Jamaica Queens section of NYC. Around that time, I think E275 and L133 had been Number 1 on the Runs and Workers list.
