Maltese width 3 3/4"What is the actual size of the piece ?
I saw one a year or two on a car on the Upper East Side, but I can't remember if it's markings said NYC or FDNY. Not can I speak on the officiality of the car in question.
Its mine. I found it when I was packing up my parents house in da Bronx. My dad was on da job in da Bronx back in da day so I know it goes back awhile.Very nice I have not seen one like this before....is it yours or did you see it for sale ?
What kind of cars would use them? Chief cars and the like? The ones used "back in the day" were 8 1/2 X 8 1/2. F.D. on top and N.Y. on the bottom. The center (4" diameter) held the car number. They were cast aluminum.
most likely.. would love to have one in my collection will have to look for them at the flea marketsWhat kind of cars would use them? Chief cars and the like?
For some reason the leased ambulances have the shop plates while the department owned buses have actual license plates. For what it's worth I think the shop plates are better looking.Modern day shop made plate on the front bumper used in place of the old Cast Maltese cross....... View attachment 23616
