Rumor is that is no longer happening and R*1's quarters will be used for something else.I find that very hard to believe …so then why a new engine company going to Rescues’ fire house on 43rd St when they move out ?
From what I've heard from former members, that building was once a commercial laundry prior to becoming a firehouse. Any truth to that?Although not a skyscraper, Engine 211 and Ladder 119 moved into this converted factory building during World War II. This firehouse was also the first home of the Super Pumper and Super Tender.

Don't forget the pandemic put a sizable cut into a lot of the midtown companies EMS calls and run volume. If the people ain't there, cause they ain't in the offices, then the numbers go down.👆👆. Bingo ….winner winner ……!

For a very brief time, early1960 to November 1961, 40/35 were also located in what appeared to be an old garage on Amsterdam Avenue, adjacent to what would be their new quarters while it was under construction. As a freshman at Power Memorial Academy in the fall of 1961 I would jog past both buildings on my way to track practice in the park at 72nd St. next to the Hudson River. The garage was then torn down after the new firehouse opened.Engine 40, Ladder 35 had these new quarters built in 1961
