Scroll down to post #680 on this page. Can somebody explain the helmet markings and front plates of the members of the FDNY ?
The only way to is by seeing the faceplate on the front of the helmet. What are these members?
Nowadays the back of the mask also has a unit identifierThe only way to is by seeing the faceplate on the front of the helmet.
So the helmet has a leather front piece with the number of the company which is color coded to the type of unit it is and the member's rank or badge number. The insert (the color coded number) is also in the last year now being replicated on the back of the breathing apparatus to allow for identification from both sides.O thanks, so it goes by the face plate?
The above was completely accurate about 60 years ago, although some are still accurate today.
