Los Angeles Brush Fire 1/7/25

Way off topic at this point but its nothing short of amazing that both CA and FL (and other states) continue to allow newbuilds in areas that have been wiped out by fires and hurricanes in recent decades, years and months. Insurance has been holding the line since but the legislatures regardless of affiliation have continually ignored the obvious dangers since there was cash to be made.

Its an extremely disheartening situation for first responders to be in with people who rebuild despite the danger and then call for help when they realize, far too late, they should have actually listened rather than following evac orders.

The definition of insanity .doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different outcome.

See NYT article about lack of water in tank fed hydrant system. Not just low pressure but NO WATER ! NADA ! ZIP ! DRY AS A BONE ! Maybe they will need to start drafting from the ocean if they have the capacity to do that.

https://www.nytimes.com/live/2025/0...ck-of-water-has-hindered-firefighting-efforts
An article I read today in Forbes - I Googled it - stated one inch of rain in LA causes 3.8 billion gallons of runoff to the Pacific Ocean.

California has the fifth LOWEST property insurance rates in the country Fact check it! Defies logic but demonstrates how corrupt the Florida governor and legislature are in Fla. I have been touting that fact for several years now way before these fires.

Must be cheaper when you no longer have fire insurance.

This is like the movie “Chinatown” in real life

My brother lives in LA . About an hour ago I'm talking to him. He's watching this fire in the Hollywood Hills about a mile down the street from him. He's upwind about 3000 to 4000 feet northwest. He's got good water pressure and there is apparatus all over the place plus a fleet of helicopters overhead. He gets a phone notification to evacuate. I don't think all the great weather is gonna make up for this.

Great rundown. Thanks for sharing.

Las Vegas Fire and Clark County Fire have announced that 25 Firefighters, 5 Engine Companies, 2 Battalions and a Mechanic Truck are on route to Riverside to assist with the fires.

Nice job on the run down Ig. My brother is on the north end of the evacuation zone for the Sunset Fire listed on Solar Drive.
He lives down the road from Engine 108. I believe that most of the evacuation has been rescinded. That fire had 45-60 acres involved in Runyon Canyon.

I see that LAX is now using Runways 24 R/L for landings which would imply a wind shift from the Santa Ana.

As of 1PM today, there are 297 engine companies, 9 water tenders, 12 helicopters, 12 bulldozers, 44 hand crews, 1,947 other units, and a total of 2,321 personnel assigned to the Palisades fire. Resources from CalFire, LA City, LA County, Santa Monica, Culver City, Westwood and others make up these totals. And the numbers don't include fixed wing aircraft in use.

Are there marine units working as well? Maybe with water drafting.

In a similar train of thought, wondering if coast guard was tasked with helping
