I was able to crawl in, out and around Rescue 4 yesterday and the rig is solid and well designed. Spoke with the spec supervisor and Chris Ferrara and they explained the differences between the Rescues and the Ladders and the normal order for any other department.

The rigs are tough and designed to take what we dish out! The bump at the top of the box is a protective shield for a cooling unit located on top of the box.

What did they say about the differences between the units for FDNY and the other ones?  Thanks for the information about the bump!

Bulldog, mainly discussed the difference between the FDNY standard and the NFPA standard the rest of us follow. One big difference is the thickness of the subframe and the supports. The only thing that comes to my mind is sturdy and stable. I was really impresed with the set up of the Rescue and Ladder. Totally functional on all levels. No wasted space and the interior is designed to take abuse.

One question, do all members carry a key for cabinet locks?

Anybody know where the new R5 is?  It got into the NY area in early March, and was at the Mega Show in Nassau . . . but I haven't seen anything about it since.  Is it at da Shops?  At the Ferrara dealer?  Back in LA?  Disappeared into the ether?  Abducted by aliens?  8) ::)

If they are in NJ they are either in Pine Brook in Morris County, or at Federated Fire Apparatus in South Plainfield. I have no idea which dealer sold the rigs. If they are in South Plainfield then they are literaly around the corner from the dealer that delivered the current 2002 E-Ones.

The recent Ferrara orders may have been factory direct sales, meaning that no dealer was involved.  I know it was Ferrara's plan to establish a repair facility in New Jersey.  Have they done this yet?

I'm only basing this on the fact that the Seagrave orders were factory direct.

One way is to attach the key to the positions radio this way it should not get lost. That's what we used to do.  We didn't lock that many compartments any way

As far as locks go. Most places don't use them, ours don't work at this point.due.to.age and wear.
Only place I see locks used 100% are the ambulances.
68 used to lock the doors but kept .key under.the effect ecc seat.

Only 1 rescue is listed as "In production" on Ferrara's site - this would be R-1, correct?  Any word on whether any of the other rescues have been delivered yet?  I thought R-5 went to the dealer for some final work, but that was a couple weeks ago by now?
