We don't do anything for manhole fires except if it travels to the buildings and ignites the building. Purple K is more of a fire seperator it is used to seperate the flame ffom the chemical or gas that is on fire.Being in a house with one of the original 2 Purple K rigs, the 4 companies that just got their rigs will realize how much of a pain it is to refill the ball when there is a mess everywhere. Use the nederman or do it outside the firehouse.

And I thought filling the Purple K can sucked..

Speaking of Purple K.  Heard a funny joke about it,  changing a guys baby powder with the Purple K.  :o

Purple "K" works by breaking the Chain Rection of fires. It is great for a quick knock down of flammable liquid fires but often requires foam or water Fog to complete extinguishment. I can help control electrical fires in enclosed areas, but the current must be turned off or cut after the Purple K = a kind of Dry Chemical, is used for knockdown. Purple K does NOT work for fires in many flammable metals, including Lithium in many high output batteries. Captain Bob Rainey FDNY Engine 26 retired
