Whats the residence requirement for the FDNY these days. Back in 1974 one of my neighbors in Philadelphia was a Capt in the FDNY. I'd say he lived about 90 miles or so from New York.
Personnel have to reside within one of the following counties, New York (mn), Kings (Bk), Queens, Richmond (Staten Island), Bronx, Rockland, Orange, Westchester, Nassau, Suffolk.Whats the residence requirement for the FDNY these days. I know of people who worked for the city here who used addresses inside the city (such as a relatives house) but if caught you got fired immediately. Several years ago they changed the residency requirements. Usually you got caught because someone dimed on you.My father worked as an Assistant Engineer for the city for 40 years . . . during every bit of it he lived in Nassau County, in violation of the residency requirements. He used my aunt's address in Brooklyn as his "home". Only thing homelike about it was that's where he got mail from the city.
Be a resident of one of the five boroughs of New York City or live in Nassau, Orange, Putnam, Rockland, Suffolk or Westchester County.Personnel have to reside within one of the following counties, New York (mn), Kings (Bk), Queens, Richmond (Staten Island), Bronx, Rockland, Orange, Westchester, Nassau, Suffolk.
I believe that's all of them.

To my understanding there is no residency requirement, if you can make it you can get the jobEMS was always classified as "Hard To Fill" (wonder why) and there was no residency requirement. I don't know what the rule is today.
I always thought it was crazy that you can live an hour and a half or more up in Orange County or live out by da lighthouse in Montauk which is easily 2 hours into Queens but ya can’t live over da GW in Fort Lee or work in SI an live in Perth Amboy which both are a stones throw away. The injustice is City residents get I believe 10 points on the FDNY entrance exam. So living in Nassau or Suffolk or upstate or other than the 5 Boros you have a big disadvantage. Once on the job you can move out of the City to the above mentioned areas. In the late 80's they made a big push to check on were you lived. Some people were living in NJ and that was a no no. I know candidates that had Parents that were victims of 911 also got extra points on the entrance exam as well a disabled and regular vets.
In NJ if you move out of the state you can't work for a NJ departmentI always thought it was crazy that you can live an hour and a half or more up in Orange County or live out by da lighthouse in Montauk which is easily 2 hours into Queens but ya can’t live over da GW in Fort Lee or work in SI an live in Perth Amboy which both are a stones throw away
