^^^^^ The Job is working on a site for a temporary indoor site nearby in an existing commercial bldg. for the Members & the Rigs when the actual demo starts....they had a place lined up around the corner a few blocks West on QNS Blvd but the owner re negged after the plan started but before anything was done with it so they are still looking.

It depends on the firehouse. Some chief rigs are parked with the engine and truck in the rear or front on the same apparatus floor, other firehouses the chief rig is in its own little room with their own door to enter/leave from.

They are parked across Grand Ave because an unscrupulous developer that was working in the lot next door attempting to build a 17 sty hotel undermined the foundation of the FH back around '09 or '10 & failed to correct the situation & along the way while violating another stop work order he had a collapse occurred killing one worker & injuring some others .....he filled the excavation with dirt & gravel & the Units that were temporarily relocated back then were allowed to return however he thumbed his nose at orders from the City to correct the original undermining & left the construction site dormant for years.but after several years major cracks developed in the FH walls so only the 46*BN Rig & the E & T personnel are allowed inside... no big Rigs... he has a terrible track record around NYC with his projects......the current status is a planned complete demo of the damaged FH & a new FH built on the original site....Units are planned to move into a nearby temporary commercial bldg once a suitable one is found.

THE FATAL CONSTRUCTION SITE COLLAPSE NEXT DOOR.....

The collapse occurred in the lot that is next to 287/136/46 qtrs 86-53 Grand Ave Elmhurst Queens 11373.....(if you "google earth" it you may still see a 1 story commercial that actually fronted on Queens Blvd.)......this is a chronic problem site......the owner & builder of the new const. is the notorious Tommy Huang....he runs a very shady construction business...around '09 or '10 he dug down 2 stories & wound up undermining the FH....all Companies had to be relocated for several days until the whole excavation was backfilled w/dirt & gravel to stabilize the FH foundation.....it remained that way up until recently....remediation was supposed to have been done to the FH foundation but it has not happened yet....the Bldgs Dept cannot keep up w/this guys moves.....he has a multi million $ corporation involving many names & relatives .....he has been cited w/several other illegal bldg projects but always skates or has one of his scapegoat figures holding the bag.....in the FH case his 76 year old site supervisor (a Ret. bldg dept guy) was locked up....Huang is the guy responsible for destroying the landmark RKO Flushing Kieths theater on Northern Blvd. opposite Main St........he not only gutted the interior but he was responsible for a major Haz Mat situation in the basement of the theater......it has been standing vacant for well over 20 years & he recently sold the shell for 20 million...in some of his other moves in Queens he would buy a big Queen Anne & bulldoze it ...then build four dwellings sideways on the lot....he would sell them telling the buyers that the previous driveway (which the fronts of the dwellings faced ) was actually a STREET.......just a few of his accomplishments.......always one step ahead.

The traffic light helps somewhat but it is a hit & miss thing....depending where Members are in the FH when a Run comes in or what duties they are involved in they are not all crossing Grand Ave at the same time & either the first FF out or the last FF out might not get the benefit of a Green light.....the Light in front of the FH was designed for when the rigs exit the FH onto Grand Ave....if it is cycled to allow Members to cross Grand Ave by the time they do so & board the Rigs it will be back to Green for the traffic on Grand Ave & not for the exiting (from the temporary structure) Rigs.... it is better than nothing but it sucks that the Members have been put in this situation by the damage done to the FH & not addressed by the next door contractor as he was ordered to do so by the City awhile back & the damage to the FH has now progressed to the point that the E & T must be kept out...........on the Traffic Light subject the other light control for Grand Ave at Queens Blvd is a big benefit to the FH as Queens Blvd is 11 lanes wide at that point & when the light goes Out Of Service or if the third out Rig (usually BN*46) misses the Green it can be like a Star Wars video game with vehicles coming in both East & West Bound directions as well as those in both North & South Bound Turning Lanes ......even on the Green for the FD at QB often there is someone who thinks since three directions are Red that they can go since they think something is broken & also the fact that Grand Ave comes on a curve so not all of part of the intersection can see the Rigs coming .....the majority of the Runs generally involve crossing part or all of QB since that is the direction taken from the FH to get to Jackson Heights ... Corona.....Rego Park etc......but the main problem is in front of the FH today with the FFs crossing Grand Ave on foot many times a Tour at all times of the day & in all kinds of Weather.....may all stay safe.
