Believe it or not Ray, "Hot Diggity" was supposed to be to rival the up and coming rock n' roll music, especially Elvis releases.

We loose another singer from the past.

B.J Thomas passed away at 78 years old.

His hits began in 1968 such as:
"Hooked on a Feeling"
"I'm so lonesome I could cry"
"Raindrops keep falling on my head"

Late Entry: Willie Winfield of the Harptones passed away July 27, 2021 of a cardiac. He was 91. The Harptones put out some great tunes over the years. Rest In Peace Willie and thanks for the memories.

Definitely not doo-wop but a great entertainer and song writer passed away on August 20th. Tom T. Hall had many hits on the country charts as well as cross-overs to the pop charts. He was the writer of Jeannie C. Reilly's "Harper Valley PTA." Thanks Tom for the music and the memories. Rest In Peace Sir.

Sad to report that we lost another well known in the 50's-60's music era. Don Everly of the "Everly Brothers" passed away on August 21, 2021. His brother, Phil, had passed way on January 3, 2014. Rest In Peace gentleman and thanks for the memories.

Sad to report that David Blatt, aka "Jay Black" of Jay & The Americans" passed away on October 23, 2021 from complications of pneumonia. He was 82 years of age. He succeeded Jay Traynor as the group's lead singer. Great voice and great music. Rest In Peace and thanks for the memories.

Yes very sad news of the passing of Jay Black.

I've read that his last live performance was in January, 2017 and I believe that was at the Mohegan Sun Casino. I was in the audience and although he tried, I think he realized his singing career was about to come to an end.

But this is Jay Black, as we remember him from his beginning days to his senior citizen days.

Thank you Jay for giving us your great music for so many years.

Yesterday while puttering around the house, staying out of the rain, I played a few songs for entertainment. It dawned on me that this one particular song might be enjoyed by my fellow site members. I'll bet you have never heard it, but give it a try and let me know what you think. "What did you do with your old 45's?" sung by Bobby Vinton from 1989. It was never released as a single but I gave it some air play at a radio station where I worked part time and slowly more requests came in to play it again as it was enjoyed by the listening audience so it was added to the rotation.

Yes Charlie, I remember that one too.

Bobby Vinton, another great that I have seen Live and when I did, that song; "What did you do with those old 45's" was one of them.

I also have a DVD, (remember them too - ! ! ! ) of Bobby Vinton Live and he sings that song along with many other hits as well.

CDs and DVDs of many of the famous singers mentioned in this topic have been one of my interest as well.

As the long cold winter begins to set in, it's a great time to listen or watch those Doo Wop Greats do what they did best. That being; "they entertained us during our younger days and there's nothing wrong with taking a trip back".

Carole King, born Carol Klein in Manhattan, was just inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.....Her Father Sidney Klein was an FDNY LT in ENG*236 in East New York ....he was OTJ 1942 to 1963. ........
