The Ventures/Days of Doo Wop

Joe Bonsall of the Oak Ridge Boys died last week at age 76 of Lou Gehrig's Disease. He was born in Philadelphia and both his parents were WWII veterans.

The group's first hit (in 1977) was "Y'all Come Back Saloon"' He was lead vocal on "Elvira" in 1981 and :Bobbie Sue" in 1982.

Another Oak Ridge member passed away recently as well. William Golden??? I don't recall definitely. This was another great group that were just a bit more up-tempo in their songs than the Statler Brothers.

Joe Bonsall, William Lee's son Rusty Golden died, great guy!

Sunday evening, July 21st '24, the Mohegan Sun Casino offered a Free Show at the Wolf Den that I attended.
A group known as "Dr K's Motown Revue" appeared on stage with many of those once very popular Motown hits that many of us remember.

The group consisting of three ladies and two guys, along with a great back band performed hit songs from The Four Tops, The Temptations, The Spinners, the Supremes, the Marvelettes, etc

Of course as many here already know, I worked as a U.S. Letter Carrier from 1970-1975
Back then, all the pretty ladies used to wait for me to deliver their mail and their theme song was by the Marvelettes back then called:
"Wait a Minute Mr Postman".

Then they sang another one of those Marvelettes hits called "Don't Mess With Bill"
Now some of you know, before I became the Famous Willy D., my name was Bill.
So this song told all the ladies out there that they better not mess with Bill, "that's me - before Willy D"

Do you remember this ? It was his shows famous Theme Song.

As quoted above, the you tube above was that famous "77-WABC Cousin Brucie" theme song.
A time when many of us now senior citizens, tuned in on our car AM Radios in the tri-state area (NY, NJ, Ct) to listen to the top music hits.

But how about this one.
It was his CLOSING THEME SONG at the midnight hour.
One of our members mentioned it as "WMCA 66" on that AM Dial.

He is no longer with us, but do you remember him

If you'd like to go back in time driving down the Avenue and stopping at your favorite hamburger joint while listening to the Wolfman on your AM Radio, this should bring back some memories.

This was a time shortly after those GREAT DOO WOP DAYS

He was 70 years old.

His last Live Performance was on January 17, 2010 at the Mohegan Sun Arena for a Bowzer's Rock and Roll Party.
