Is there a list for where the Mack C apparatus was assigned and what their registration numbers were? Unfortunately I cannot find a copy of John Calderone's book anywhere.

To note is one of the order #1046 of 52 750gpm in 1958 had Automatic Transmission noted with a chrome bumper and rotated between different companies

There is a Mack Model "C" book out there. It's by Chief Calderone

E 40s rig went to E5 as their 54 Mack went OOS and we asked if we could keep it until we got a new one, because it had a booster reel which the 54 didn’t. We finally got a 70 Mack with no power steering WOW
 
At one time no FDNY Engine Companies had rigs with Power Steering. Mack had a deal going that said with each Engine rig, you could be get a Partner K-12 Saw OR "Power Steering". The FDNY took the Partner K-12 saws and gave the Saws to the Truck & Rescue Companies. The Engines got a new pumper with NO Power Steering. I wonder how many Engine Companies struck parked cars and other things because of lack of power steering? Captain Bob Rainey FDNY Engine 26 retired
 
You are right the FDNY finally saw the light and decided that it was worth ensuring that all the new Engines had Power Steering. Sadly, alot of 1st line older rigs were built before 1975 still did not have power steering and we still often had the same problems. I went to M.P.O. = E.C.C. training in 1974 and it was alot of effort to turn the Engine wheel at slow speeds on alot of rigs. One of the 1st times I drove we got relocated to the Bronx Engine 73, from Lower Manhattan. The officer or I were not familiar with the Bronx at the time, and I had a hell of a time driving and not knowing where I was really going. We even stopped in a gas station and asked for directions. Once we finally got to Engine 73's quarters, we had use of the Route Cards to help us. Does anyone else remember Route Cards? Captain Bob Rainey FDNY Engine 26 retired
