By looking at the requirements they are eliminating anybody who's not already a firefighter in Florida. Considering you have to have all of the qualifications from Florida and they want except out-of-state qualifications. They certainly are cutting out a lot of potential applicants.

That's very common in Florida, you could probably count on one hand the number of departments in the state that don't require FL FF prior to hire. Most also require FL PM.

Here in Florida the cities require you to pay for your own training before hiring. About 10 years ago it cost $2500 and there are several fire schools around the state.

I wonder if the hiring requirement is a state statute? If it is, how do they handle trying to hire a guru fire chief from out of state?

Yes but if the requirements of the same difference would it make if somebody came from out of state with the proper certifications? Are the requirements for the Florida training that much different?

Despite having nationally accepted standards, some states chose not to accept a certification issued by another state even if it meets the national standard. Kind of crazy.

Very true, I am a certified National Fire Instructor from NY, Pennsylvania did not recognize.
