It's not Halon, it's a dry powder system of some type. Halon isn't used anymore and when it was used it with used in computer rooms etc., not an outsider is like this.
It's too bad that Pierce won't bid on the new rescues (or any other FDNY equipment for that matter). I'm sure there are many reasons including but not limited to the warranty requirements. There certainly are awful lot of departments around the nation who love their equipment however.
Yes, I can certainly see that happening! Looking at the pictures it mostly tankers and brush rigs with a few conventional engines. Many small airports like this do not have any CFR capability outside of maybe foam on a couple of the closest engine companies.
Seems like FDNY/NYPD should set up a separate group to start towing vehicles in mass that park like this. Charge a significant towing fee that could pay for the operation of the department and eventually people may get a hint that they can't do this! Either that or just putting outriggers down...
I don't see the point in encrypting Fire Ground or any other far department frequencies for that matter except for transmission information about your firefighters. Other than that what's the need? I understand encryption of EMS and some of the police frequencies but encryption of the standard...
I realize that FDNY wants to get top quality equipment but minor paint scuffs? The rigs are going to get scrapes and scratches the 1st day they going to service anyway. I certainly understand and agree with not accepting a piece of apparatus if there are any operational problems or...
Imagine that! A new system that's got just as many problems or more than the old one, you would think that the people designing it working contact nor testing in the real world!
It's unfortunate that the owner obviously have so much money he's not worried about the car. Too bad a runaway garbage truck doesn't just happen to him miss the corner!
When I 1st saw that hybrid approach I thought it was rather strange because an ambulance are out of service for a while when they are at the hospital. Why Tie up a piece of apparatus with the associated manpower for something like this? The SUV as a medical response vehicle paired with an engine...
I certainly agree with most of these disadvantages you posted but Quints are also available with a 100' ladder on them.
There are also obviously some advantages to them. One of the biggest being if they are 1st due they are going to be located in front of the structure in most cases so if they...
They aren't designed to look good, they are there to increase the safety for the brothers, that's what really matters! How the truck looks is only for members of departments that don't do much firefighting! Safety and functionality are what matters.
While I agree that some cities have started using Quints others have gone away from them. St. Louis at one time was all quints but recently they have started going away from them back to traditional engine and truck companies. They found out that Quints didn't work. Quints may be all right...
