I'm not sure but I believe that it may be because of corrosion resistance, the winters and the huge use of salt in northern climates is rough in vehicle bodies. Aluminum is also corrosion resistant but is much more prone to cracking caused by vibrations etc.
It certainly looks awful cumbersome getting in out of the basket at both the top and the bottom. The concept may be good but it looks like they certainly need to work on the execution a little bit, it seems like the set up took quite a while and having to add an Takeaway the loading ladder etc...
I'm sure the single source approach if it exists is due to the strict warranty requirements of FDNY. That way if there is a problem they only have to go to 1 company instead of having 2 pointing fingers each other. The rescue they got from Pierce after 911 was single source but from what I've...
You have to wonder for the next round of Rescues what they will do, since these from Ferrara have taking forever to get into service, they were ordered over 2 years ago. Unfortunately it doesn't seem like anybody else really want to bid on the contract for them. I wonder if they could talk...
I saw that, they made a bigger deal about it that it really was considering it was just the wooden overhang/parapet wall. Of course the media does that to get "click bait" responses to their articles.
The liability wouldn't go on Seagrave if the colors for the striping were specified by FDNY. There are many other ISO/NFPA requirements that FDNY doesn't follow in one way or another.
You have to wonder the reasoning for however, especially in NYC I don't feel of much value. May be on the back and some highway situations but that small area on the front of the sea like it would do much and if you can't see all the flashing lights I'm not sure you would see it. Maybe it is...
There are many reasons they are not allowed, if stated by a PP they're useless to the firefighter as far as completing their job goes. While in some cases they may provide video evidence of a problem or provide training after the exam is complete there are also major considerations for...
I read an article elsewhere that the damage to the truck was caught by only 10 pounds of explosives! So much for the truck being designed to contain explosions!
I know the new aluminum wheels were not specified to look nice but they certainly do make the rigs look sharper! If anyone know the reason for the chrome/polished aluminum on the front of the rigs?
I was just reading that in addition to the 2 USAR teams from Miami and Miami-Dade, 2 teams from Virginia and one from Ohio have also been alerted for response. I thought normal procedure was for the 3 closest teens to respond but it seems like these 3 are not necessarily the 3 closest, it seems...
Fortunately the gear that FEMA teams wear is much lighter weight than firefighting turnout gear. It's obviously still very hot and tedious work however.
I read an article a while ago that said DeSantis signed the emergency declaration about 6 PM yesterday. Normal response for FEMA is the...
The latest reports say the death toll has only risen to 3 but there are still 99 people missing: https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/florida-building-collapse-latest-3-dead-as-many-as-99-missing/ar-AALnGxF?ocid=msedgntp
They certainly have advantages, if they made a TDA Tower $$$, it would certainly make things interesting for FDNY. I believe LA city has all tillers. I'm sure a tiller costs a good bit more than a rear mount however.
I'm actually surprised that other than in the houses where the 95' rigs won't fit they haven't converted all of them to 95'. The 95s can do everything that the 75s can but the opposite isn't true. I know there's a cost differential but I'm guessing it isn't that great in the overall scheme of...
