    Tolls

A FF friend was on light duty at the Mand Library and was assigned to drive an FDNY marked communcations van. Returning to Randalls Island later in the day, he noticed several toll takers laughing and pointing at his vehicle. The guy in the booth informed him of the magnetic "free pizza...

Deck pipe in my day...replaced by the portable multiversal with the late 1950s Mack C models. (See capttomo's new post in General Discussion for better info.) Deck pipes were originally mounted on hose wagons and carried the common name of fireboat monitors.

E14 relocates to E88...a long run from from 18th St. I am betting that relocation has never happened before. But there is a connection between engine 14 and engine 88... In 1922, E88 replaced its horses with a tractor driven steamer and motorized hose wagon reassigned from engine 14. What...

    FDNY Rigs circa 1968

I am guessing that CD pumper is E46-2. Most of the 2nd sections organized in 1968 began using Cd rigs. Also, the 1956 ALF shown for L106 was the same model that L27 used for years prior to getting the newer ALF as shown. I don't know if it's the same one. I do have all the rig serial numbers...

BASIC FIRE FIGHTING ABOARD SHIP 1960 U.S. NAVY TRAINING FILM 46844

1960, when this film was produced, was way prior to the Vietnam Nam era. Hokey? Please consider this, which I am writing off the top of my head tonight. Some specifics may be askew but the gist is correct. On 1 June 1934, Captain Harold Burke of the FDNY was promoted to battalion chief and...

As a grammar school kid, (OLR, Bedford Park, if that means anything), my schoolyard bunch got bored with Orchard Beach. Just Bronx street kids looking for a thrill, local lore tipped us off to the possibility of some fun and adventure at the Fordham Street dock on City Island where the Hart’s...

    Shift change question

Still a great question Rachamner. I recall asking my Dad the same thing when I was a young’un, like maybe in grade school. I will let those who have knowledge of today’s union/labor laws address this current situation, but perhaps I can give a historical perspective, the times before there was...
