That area was once known by the FD as "Hell's Hundred Acres" due to all the commercial loft buildings in the area. Wooster Street was also the site of a 1958 fatal fire that killed Firefighters and members of the Fire Patrol in a collapse.
Back in the day, the boro dispatchers knew their boro inside out, backwards, forwards and upside down without all this computer stuff. They could practically tell you where the nearest hydrant was at the location.
EMS moved into the Rossville house in February of 2004. I was on duty the night that we started "business". It was at 2100 hours and the Division Commander Deputy Chief of the 8th Division and the Chief of EMS were there to cut the ribbon, so to speak. E168 went into service in June of 2005.
