Sig73 when will this new practice stop? Are they looking at this? Just assigning the relocator because they are in the response area? The relocator is providing coverage. The Dispatcher should wait and assign those companies normally due. Am I wrong?

They aren't assigned from their own quarters.

Id say 95% of the time they are "10-8" in that companies response area

Example from above

L-117 2nd Due on 2nd Alarm 2.5 miles away
L-136 Act. 116 will say is at the quarters of 116 is 0.6 miles away

They are wanting closest available company assigned

Basically companies no longer have 2nd 3rd or 4th alarm boxes anymore? Because now it’s just assign a relocated company and then relocate another company to that original company at the job. Makes no sense

It seems that after the full first alarm assignment everything is up in the air.

My question is who makes the decision on who to relocate and to where? Does the computer do it or the Dispatcher? In the old days we had alarm box cards that spelled everything out. If an all hands came in you looked up on the card to see if you would respond on the 2nd alarm or any future alarm. The cards had info up to the 5th alarm. If you were on second alarm members would assemble on apparatus floor waiting for that 2nd alarm or the under control signal.

How does it make no sense, there’s a job going on and they are trying to get the closest units there to put out the fire. Would you rather be waiting on a unit thats 8 blocks away or 80.
