ABC Question

A further question on this: aside from the fact an ABC gets relieved by a BC as incident commander, what other positions is the ABC restricted from? On a second alarm, I believe ABCs are not allowed to be assigned safety, correct? Am I also correct to say they don't use ABCs in the SOC battalions (RB, HB, MB), nor in Safety?

Correct on all counts.

They do not use ABC's in the Rescue BN....it is odd because the pool of assigned SOC Company CPT's are usually some of the most experienced but they do not have them ABC but in the regular DV's a LT promoted to CPT last week can be an ABC.

So lets say if there's a vacancy in the Resuce BN, if there's no one usually assisgned to the rescue battalion to fill it. Do they get someone from either the Hazmat BN, Marine BN, Safety BN? Or do they find a BC that has experience within the SOC and have them work the RB for the tour?

Someone else may know all the criteria but as a starting point I believe anybody (BC or FF) in any of those units (RB, MB, HB, SB) have to be HAZMAT Level 2 trained. Not sure where they get their extra manpower when vacancies arise.

A BC from the Rescue BN usually fills it on comp time.

Thanks. Can they take any of the other pre-designations? RUL, SAM, ARC, etc? Or is the basic principle that ABCs are generally only used for fire duty?
Unsure for most of the designations, but I would assume its a negative for ARC, BCs need to be specially trained for that assignment, and probably also no for the Transit/Rail Liaison, High-Rise Air Team, and planning section.
