Now since the brush trucks are going to get bigger. Are they going to be relocated becuase of them not fitting in with the normal engine company. Like engine 156 on Staten Island, the brush fire truck parks in the back of the bay behind the engine. Now with the new model coming i don't think it is going to fit. Any ideas anyone?
Do you have any dimensions for the previous BFU's?  It would be nice to compare the specifications for the new trucks to the size the old ones were.  They sound like they are going to be quite a bit bigger but without comparing the dimensions I'm not sure.  I'm not quite sure why they have crew cabs since they always respond as the 2nd piece unless they have plans to let them run alone during major emergencies or during severe storm conditions.

Well. BFU 3 has been spending a lotta time at E165/TL85 so I wouldn't be surprised to see it permanently moved there since its close to Great Kills and they have a bit of room in the lot...but not much room.

They have kept bfu 3 there because 165 lost there bfu during sandy. And they are probably keeping there cause it central to most of the wooded areas on island

Thinking used to be different years back.  In my father's day (70s and 80s), they did not want to see large brush units because they felt they would not be able to penetrate wooded areas and they would get bogged down more frequently due to the extra weight.  Early brush units were smaller and lighter.

Brush fire units do get staffed as independent companies at times.
Staffing would be an officer and two firefighters.
This would be during brush fire season and extra units during  storms.

I know what they look like but I don't have the information available as to what the actual dimensions and GVW etc. are.  They obviously will be longer to say have a crew cab but I'm not sure about the other dimensions.

That's still the thinking in many places.  Large brush fire units are good for certain conditions where the ground is very firm and where they can knock over small trees (like the Breaker units used in Massachusetts and New Jersey) but when the ground is soft or muddy they aren't very effective.

I'm not 100% sure on the large fdny BFU's but International 4800 series trucks are generally have a gross weight rating (GVWR) of 26,500 lbs

At long last, here is one of the new BFUs.  Credit to an unknown photographer . . . but it appears to have been taken at the KME plant:

Is there any reason why the BFUs are not numbered for their "parent" engine company?  Thanks!
