FDNY HELMET EVAL

Department Order 20 dated 20 Feb 2024 has a paragraph stating “The pilot program to evaluate the Leather Cairns Helmet for the FDNY has come to an end.” Although now a moot point, what was this?

There was a pilot program for the members to wear leather helmets. There are a few pictures floating around of Chiefs wearing them over the last year.

Wonder if the leather helmet shortage was the reasoning of not getting the leathers, because i would believe that any one would be willing to give a department the size of FDNY a decent discount for their orders.

nothing on the Dept. Order

They sent that order out a year ago or so and still guys are wearing leather helmets. I think if the guys want to buy there own and wear it they should be able to.
