FDNY Pumpers awarded to KME

Okay, all 91 KMEs are in service.  How are they really doing?  Do the brothers like them?  How about the chauffeurs?

I like ours.  It's a little bigger and took some getting used to, but it accelerates well, turns okay and has a decent ride.  There's not enough room for the Boss, but the back is huge.

It's got quirks, and some recurring issues, but don't believe the hype....the Seagraves do too.  All in all, it's getting the job done.

Quote from Jack Lerch in the September/October issue of Fire Apparatus Journal:

"A new contract has been awarded to KME for the building of an additional eighty-nine 2000 GPM pumpers.  All will have 2000 GPM Waterous pumps and 500-gallon water tanks.  Delivery is expected to start in 2017."

Kinda surprised to see Eone bidding seeing they have the same owner as KME and 200K more per unit !!!
What really surprises me is that the bids are not closer together.

Looking forward to Doug keeping us updated on the build, and pictures as they become available.

Doug, your contract has been renewed for a couple of more years!  ;) ;) :) ;) ;)

no...original 91 pumpers were 550K/unit; these additional 89 are bid at 750k/unit...
I was going to go look up what the last bid was, thanks for doing it. That's certainly an awful big jump in price over three years!

kme seems to have whatever it takes to bid lowest and still deliver an acceptable product

They probably realized the cost of doing business with the FDNY. ie. warranty costs and such

Also interesting to note that the actual price of the trucks was lower by Seagrave but the cost of documentation they provide me the total bid for them and up higher!

I agree that the documentation costs were significantly higher, Bull, but Seagrave wanted $12,000 more per engine than KME did, not less.  And documentation, training and inspection is important too . . . which is why they are included in the bid request, and why the total package price is the most important number.  Having said that, I too am astounded at the jump in price in just 4 years.
