FDNY Pumpers awarded to KME

Saw on the house cat of 22's Instagram account that the pump is in quarters and in service

Didn't know KME made Pampers . . . much less that FDNY was buying any.  8) ::)  Oh those roving fingers. ;D  Of course, for my crowd it's Depends, not Pampers . . . right, Willy D?  ;)

Engine 225, the last of the 91 KME 2014-2016 2000 gpm pumpers under contract was placed in service today.

Now that they are all in service, and have been on the job for a while now.....how are they doing?    Do the men like them?

I have been covering in a company with a 2016 KME pumper and it has had no major issues since they took delivery in August 2015.

It rides well with nice pick-up but has a horrendous turning radius.  Definitely not enough width up front for the officer; even less than the Seagrave.

Rumor going around the Fire Apparatus industry that the fire apparatus division of KME is going to be sold to the parent company of Emergency One.

I heard yesterday that with all the warranty work KME has had to do that it is really hurting them in the pocketbook.

If that's the case then Ferrara should be bankrupt by now!

I drive one of the 2016 kmes....as someone stated above it has a horrible turning radius. Other then that it's a copy cat of the newer seagraves. I would take back our 2008 seagrave in a second as would all the other eccs in the company!

KME had been bought out by the REV Group Inc

Apparently the REV Group is the parent group of E-One, should be interesting to see if the KME line goes away or REV continues with two fire apparatus lines

Yes, it will be interesting.

It will be also interesting to see what happens with the next round of Engine Companies, I wonder if this was in the wind and is the reason that the winning bidder for the last round hasn't been announced yet?

If anything, this will make KME's ability to withstand the financial strain of an FDNY warranty even stronger, and may make their ability to price competively lower. Maybe this was the current ownership's golden parachute.

I also think that the REV Group will keep both brands separate, at least for the foreseeable future. If you look, they own seven different competing ambulance brands, RV brands, etc. E-One and KME are VERY different companies, and merging them might be more money then it's worth.

That was my 1st thought, but then I began to wonder if they want to pursue that relationship as part of their corporate strategy.
