A Great Collection of former NYPD vehicles.

Besides the history of these NYPD vehicles, interesting to see the car that was used in the early 1960s (?) TV show called; "Car 54 Where are you" ?

For those who don't know what this program was all about, it was a half hour comedy show about a fictional 53rd Pct in the Bronx. Car 54 was operated by the characters known as Officer Gunther Toody and Officer Francis Muldoon. Every week on our black and white TV screens many of us tuned this program in.

For those who do remember Officer Toody and Muldoon, this was that weekly intro we watched and enjoyed back then.

July 12, 2016 many of us watched as a Memorial Service took place for FIVE Dallas Police Officers who had been randomly shot down and killed only a few days earlier. A very sad ceremony as we learned more of each officers individual life. Mostly family members with a wife and children at home.

On that date, July 12, in 1986, exactly 30 years ago, there was another tragic event. This involved the shooting of NYPD Officer Steven McDonald while on patrol in New York's Central Park. As he and his partner approached three young individuals between the ages of 13 and 15, they started to run away. Those teenagers were in possession of a stolen bicycle. One suspect ran hiding behind a bush. As Officer McDonald approached him three shots were fired by that youth hitting Officer McDonald.

One bullet hit him in the head, above his eye. The second bullet hit him in his throat causing a speech disability. The third bullet shattered his spine making him a quadriplegic and in need of a ventilator.

Since that shooting NYPD Officer McDonald wrote a wrote a book called; "Why Forgive". He also watched his son follow his footsteps into the NYPD and recently get promoted within the ranks.

Many of us here may remember this incident. Here is a short video telling some of his story.

7-19-16....Report of a collar tonight in the BX by 42 Crime Unit of a perp w/an AK47 that was casing the 42 Pct Station House which was being patrolled by SRG Units w/rifles.

FROM THE SBA...."Dear Fellow Sergeant

Tonight in the confines of the 70th precinct at the corner of Ditmas avenue and E 23rd street. Two NYPD officers in uniform were walking their patrol post when a dark colored sedan with tinted windows slowly approached them made a statement about getting them and proceeded to fire shots at the officers. The vehicle was occupied by (4) four male blacks, fled the scene and was subsequently dumped in the confines of the 67th precinct. Perps are still not apprehended.

Please remain alert at all times. The SBA will utilize every resource to defend your action. Your safety and the safety of your officers is paramount.

Stay safe
Ed Mullins"
