Note the kinks in the yellow supply line. Hope the fire was not that serious. It looks like a typical All Hands in the South Bronx. I had the pleasure of covering long term in Ladder 19 that is Quartered with Engine 50. Both E-50 and L-19 were great units and very very busy when I worked there in the mid, 1980s, and they both still do alto of work. Captain Bob Rainey FDNY Engine 26 retired

This reminds me of the old Twin Black Hydrants on large water mains that had TWO 4 1/2" outlets placed on large water mains for use by the old Super Pumper System. Regular FDNY units were NOT to use those twin special hydrants, due to being reserved ONLY for the Super Pumper System. I do not know if they still exist. Captain Bob Rainey FDNY Engine 26

I believe they have all been converted to satellite hydrants and painted red.

FDNY Tower Ladder: “ Amateurs! - hold my drink”

I spent over 20+ years in very busy FDNY Tower Ladders. Including TL-18, TL-44, TL-7 and TL-21, If you stand arms out and fingers extended outward that gives a good way to determine if you have the 6 ft. required for most Tower Ladder stabilizers to be deployed fully down. Another way is to use a 6-foot hook to measure the needed space for the Tower Ladder stabilizers. Always make sure you don't place the stabilizers of a 68,00 to 70,000+ on any soil, pavement or anything else that can support that weight. If you MUST always fully extend the stabilizers & jacks, so that all the wheels are off or just touching the surface. Tower Ladder generally need to be position at about 15 degrees angle to the curb or the front of the building for maximum reach and coverage of the Tower Ladder basket called the SCRUB area.
