A Brother Firefighter/friend saw Johnny Maestro and the Brooklyn Bridge his last show on January 17, 2010, where he performed at the Mohegan Sun Casino before Johnny had passed away. My friend told me that he had no idea at the time that Johnny had been so sick because his performance was as great as all the others he had seen him at before.

The group was also a favorite with my wife and I think we saw them play about four times as well.

Here is one of those songs that FDNY FF Michael Kiefer's dad mentions in the above video sung by Johnny Maestro less than one year (July 19, 2009) before his passing. Johnny Maestro passed away on March 24, 2010.

Thank you Johnny for giving us your best and May You, and FDNY Firefighter Michael Kiefer and those lost as a result of that horrible day on 9/11, Rest in Peace.

I would like to add this to the post. Les and myself both Nam vets also attended Power Memorial Academy H.S. Les was a yr behind me.Les was an original member of "The Del Satins" who came from the east side of Manhattan.Three original Del Satins became the Brooklyn Bridge with Johnny,Les, Richie and Tommy Ferrara. R.I.P. Richie.Les and Tom still perform with The Bridge last I heard.I forgot to add that The Del Satins backed up Dion on all his solo tunes before he went on to The Gospel tunes,

What a DIFFERENT Time it was.

I'm just glad I was around to see it and enjoy it.

Maybe some of us are living in the past, but we all know, "it will NEVER be the same again".

Yes, those were the days. It's unfortunate that none of the original Duprees are with us today and there are a few groups going around using their title. Just like the Drifters and the Platters to name a few.

As reported to you in Reply # 382, "The Bowzers Rock & Roll Doo Wop Party XVIII went on at the Mohegan Sun Casino, Sunday afternoon, January 20th. It was a GREAT Show that lasted about 4 hours from 3 - 7pm featuring ALL of the above singing groups. Including the now 90 year old original lead singer of "The Harptones", Willie Winfield. He did a GREAT JOB.

In hopes of keeping the Great Music of those Doo Wop Days from the 1950s into the early 60s alive today, many of the original singers have been replaced. Such is the case of the famous group known as "The Platters". When the lead singer of that group, Herb Reed passed away in June, 2012, there was an effort to keep their music alive. As a result, Herb Reed was replaced by Retired FDNY Frank Pizarro of the FDNY. Perhaps the most well known Retired Firefighter across the entire country among the millions of Doo Wop fans.

So what happened next at the Mohegan Sun Arena, may NOT surprise some of the members of this site. When that Famous Doo Wop Singer Frank Pizarro, Retired FDNY Member, learned that Willy D was out there in the audience, Frank made a Special effort to get his picture taken with him.

So folks, as it goes, there is now a famous picture of Willy D, aka "NFD2004", taken with Retired FDNY Member Frank Pizarro, now the lead singer of the famous Doo Wop Group known as "The Platters". I'm going to pass that famous picture onto some members who I am quite familiar with so they can verify it's existence.

Now for all of you Doo Wop Fans and members of this site, there's more to tell.

I DO have a picture taken with Frank Pizarro, lead singer of The Platters. The story that I just told you - I "wish" happened that way. The story that when Frank found out that Willy was in the audience, "he" wanted to get "his" picture taken with Willy D. But for the members of this site only, "that's NOT really how it went".

Actually what happened was during the intermission I was standing in the lobby with another fire buff friend who had also gone to this Doo Wop show. As we were standing there, as luck would have it, Frank Pizarro happened to be walking by. I stopped him and asked him if I could get a picture of him and I together. I told him I was a buff and had retired from the fire department here in Connecticut.

So with that, I then proceed to take one of those "selfie photos" using my cell phone. I didn't even know how to do it, so Frank showed me what button to push on the cellphone. That's how I got it. I was sure grateful for that. Thank You Brother.

I also learned that Frank retired from the FDNY after serving the Citizens of New York City for 21 years, including responding to the World Trade Center attack on 9/11.

In closing, I hope that Frank gets to see this and as I told him then, and I tell THE WORLD NOW, "You did a Great Job Frank" entertaining the hundreds who were at the Mohegan Sun to see the show. And as a Brother Retired Firefighter, as many here already know as I followed the work that you and your Brother and Sister Firefighters have done over the last Five Decades, "I consider you to be a part of THE GREATEST FIRE DEPARTMENT IN THE WORLD".

And for our Doo Wop Fans of this site, these are two of those famous songs that Frank sang for us at the Mohegan Sun Casino.

A sad day. We lost some of the top "chart busters" in that tragedy.  Continue to Rest In Peace and thanks for the memories of some great years.

AMERICAN BANDSTAND REVIEW by The Arminio Family....  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bfSvD4ZQ8yM

Thanks Chief, "that was GREAT". Yes, Doo Wop is Alive and Well.

This morning here at the Ole' Homestead, about 100 miles from NYC, it is about 18 degrees and as I downed my second hot cup of coffee, I started to play this video. I can tell you "it made my day". I was singing to those tunes right along with them. Well maybe I don't sound like Frankie Valle anymore but I sure did try.

Just to add a personal note here, along with the Great Days of Doo Wop being Alive and Well, my favorite place to go grocery shopping, not far from the Ole' Homestead is a place called "Big Y". Not only do they have great deals and good food, but as I push the shopping cart around, songs like these Doo Wop Hits are played over the speaker system throughout the store. It sure makes spending money for food a lot easier to take.

I plan to pass this Doo Wop video around to some friends who I think, "it will probably make their day too".

Thank you.

Bill, a few people here, about 100 miles south of you, were wondering what that racket was.  Thanks for letting us know!

"manhattan", it wasn't only me you guys in the city heard. It might have been the dogs. They were howling in the neighborhood too.

Chief, I passed that video around. I think a few more guys are hooked on that Joey Arminio and Family group too.

Excellent!!! Thanks for sharing. It doesn't matter who performs these reviews as it brings back many good memories of those years gone by. Each of those songs reminds us of the year it came out and what our lives were back then. This is a GREAT thread on this site!!!

Fans of the Doo Wop Era, as well as the FDNY, there's more to tell. For Joey Arminio and the Family, according to the lead lady singer of the group, Doreen Arminio, "BOTH her DAD and BROTHER are FDNY".

You get to see them all in this Doo Wop video.

NOTE - I need to make a correction to the above post. In the above video, you do NOT see Doreen Arminio's father, a Retired FDNY War Years Firefighter. But what I learned and wanted to pass onto you is that her father is Retired FDNY ECC, Tom Brusea, of Brooklyn's Engine 310. Maybe some of you know him.

Probably Tom Brusca.
He was in the photo of then Lieutenant Sal Cassano doing mouth-to-mouth on a child pulled from a fire building.
