NYC Mayor Rips Off Taxpayers

April 5, 2022

Catholic League president Bill Donohue comments on New York City Mayor Eric Adams' misuse of public funds:

New York City Mayor Eric Adams inherited a mess created by his predecessor, Bill de Blasio. Most New Yorkers had high hopes that he would turn things around. Instead, he is off to a bad start.

New York City has the highest unemployment rate of any city in the nation. It is also witnessing a mass exodus of people to other parts of the country—Manhattan leads the nation. This is driven in large part because of the spike in violent crime, made possible because of morally bankrupt D.A.'s and an insane bail reform law. The high cost of living is also making it impossible for many to live here anymore. To top things off, the public schools are a disaster.

And what is Mayor Adams doing? He is spending the taxpayers' money on billboards in Florida to convince non-heterosexuals who live there to come to New York where they can "say and be whoever you want." As if that is a problem in Florida.

Adams is abusing his office and the trust of the people. He was elected to solve the fiscal crisis in New York City and make our city safe again. Instead, he is inventing problems in other states that he purports to solve. His misuse of public funds is a disgrace.

If he actually thought this through, he would know that one of the reasons why New Yorkers are fleeing in record numbers—in all the five boroughs—is precisely because of the kind of irresponsible leadership that de Blasio offered. He was supposed to fix things, not play games.

Ironically, they are leaving in en masse to Florida, a state with low taxes, low crime rates and good schools. And believe it or not, those who live there can actually "say and be whoever they want."

An estimated 2.6 million people used to work in Manhattan every work day. One third of all NYC jobs were the 1.6 million office workers.
70% of these workers lived outside of Manhattan. Manhattan had 11% of national office space. Now, 17.4% of that is vacant. Last month only 34.6% of workers showed up for work in Midtown. Penn and GCT stations ridership is down over half. Subways are also relatively empty. This, of course, is killing small businesses that depend on foot traffic. Retail vacancies around GCT is up to 20%.

Maybe Disney can turn Midtown Manhattan into a theme park.

Jack I agree with you 100%. I don’t care if I ever go into the city again, after 35 years of my life protecting it and i grew there for the first 26 years. The people also fall for the fake news and vote these dopes in office.

Typical. The law-abiding decent citizens are of no concern to these fake, phony fraud "jurists." They are as bad, if not worse, that the cretins roaming the streets.

Even better than Disney. Plans are for three casinos to be built in the Times Square area. Hey, it worked great for Atlantic City!

The US Census reports that in the year ending July, 2021, New York City lost 305,000 (3.5 %) citizens. In 2022, the population of Buffalo, NY was 253,793. In a possibly related real estate story, rental rates for luxury apartments in Miami have almost doubled in the last 24 months. One of the attributed causes is the influx of people moving from New York City.

when you come down south leave your liberal politics up north.
Most, if not all of those that I know who have moved south, did not have a liberal bone in their body and moved because of the liberal politics. Secondly, never consider South Florida part of the south unless you are thinking South America! Anyone looking at Tennessee, please let me know. I need one more to have a complete Engine Company!

Jeez, where to begin?
Chesa Boudin is the District Attorney of San Francisco. He faces a recall election on June 7th. He was elected in 2019 and pledged to not prosecute quality-of-life crimes. He ended cash bail and doesn't go after repeat offenders.
In 2021, San Francisco homicides were up 36%, auto theft up 36%, arson 40%, and larceny 20%. Homelessness and drug use have skyrocketed. The population decreased 55,000 (6.7%) last year. Office workers have one of the longest commutes and lowest return to office rates (like NYC) in the country. Walgreens spends 46 times the chain average on security. 45% of those polled said they were likely to leave the city.
Chesa's mother died one month ago at age 78. To members on this site of a certain age, her name is very familiar--Kathy Boudin. A classic Manhattan-born Red Diaper baby, she became a member of the terrorist group Weather Underground (the title came from a line in the 1965 Bob Dylan song Subterranean Homesick Blues..."You don't need a weatherman to know which way the wind blows") in the late 60's.
On Friday March 6, 1970, 18 West 11th Street blew up blasting the building wall into actor Dustin Hoffman's next door apartment.

Kathy, already a wanted fugitive in Chicago, was taking a shower upstairs and escaped to her nearby mother's house. Three fellow terrorists were killed in the basement making bombs to detonate at Columbia University and an NCO club dance at Fort Dix that night. Kathy, went, of course, underground remaining a fugitive for a decade.
She next was involved in a Brink's armored car robbery with Weather Underground and Black Liberation Army members in Nanuet, New York in 1981. Two police officers and one Brink's guard were murdered and three others severely injured. She was caught that year and pled guilty to murder and was sentenced to 20 years to life in prison. She was paroled in 2003. Until her death, she lived a life of academic and society adulation in New York City.
While his mother (and father-terrorist) were in prison, Chesa was adopted by Bill Ayers and Bernardine Dohrn. These two were also members of the Weather Underground and possibly involved in the bombing of the Pentagon and U.S. Capitol. Barack Obama is alleged to have begun his Presidential campaign in Bill Ayers' living room.

It's sad, San Francisco used to be a great town.

Where's Dirty Harry when we really need him?

According to IRS data, in 2020 New York State lost $19.5 billion of taxpayer income due to outmigration of those taxpayer to other states. With a greater population and half the state budget of New York, Florida gained $23.7 billion. This trend is expected to continue or worsen. There is no evidence that high tax states provide better public services or government schools than lower taxed states.

All citizens pay the same rate schedule. Those who live where state taxes are high (income/property) have more deductions and pay less to Washington. By the way, what does a state income tax form look like? I have never seen one.

Looks like the liberals in San Francisco finally got tired of being kicked by the mule. I doubt they have learned their lesson though. Something tells me we haven't heard the last of this bum.
