Another thing that is happening in some areas is use of students as firefighters and EMTs. This is especially prevalent in areas with a large university campus. They offer free room and board to the students if they operate it firefighters and/or EMTs when they are not at school. This is a very...
"FDNY used Ferrara numerous times in the past with other specialized units as well as rear-mount ladders and heavy rescues." As if they've had such great success with those units! Hopefully this 1 won't be as much of a dog as the heavy rescues are!
By the look of the videos the fire rapidly outgrew the ability of the sprinkler system to contain it. It will be interested to see what the investigation reveals. It almost seems that the sprinkler system was turned off by how fast the fire grew?
About the only place other than FDNY that would have use for traffic that would be a refinery or other chemical facility where they have a need for large flows like that.
That would be an okay resolution but allowing them both to have duplicate equipment, training, etc. is utterly ridiculous especially when you consider the amount of financial resources involved.
For new boat just sitting there just one bilge pump should be more than sufficient! Seems like something else had to be the overall cause of the problem.
Looks like it would work anyway! I've been in a few situations where that would be very handy. It would certainly be very effective on some of the NYC streets.
Great video thanks for sharing, people who have never been involved in a major wildland/Urban interface fire like this don't realize all the complexities of fighting one! I always love the residence that go out with her garden hoses
They shouldn't be rehired and the mandate should be lifted! They were given a command order and they disobeyed the order, plain and simple. They like every other one need to learn that they have to do what they are told to do whether they agree with it or not or else face the consequences...
It actually looks brand-new! I'm sure it doesn't have many miles on it nor has it been used an awful lot. FDNY does get rid of a lot of units because of their age not because they need to be replaced. Yet another great example of stupidity that many fire departments have about older equipment...
Certainly a nice looking rig. Unfortunately, with so many manufacturers evolved in the process it would never catch on because of so many people involved in the process and the problems that would cause with warranty issues!
Is it still in service? If so does anyone know how well it has been...
