What's the purpose of the red section at the bottom of the grill? The only purpose I could possibly think of would be extra protection but if that's the only purpose they certainly could have done it in chrome or stainless steel to make it look much better of course also not having the diamond...

Another reading many departments are adding additional tillers is for the additional compartment space. That something that's not really necessary with how FDNY operates. They have many others specialized units that carry the additional required equipment for use when needed.

San Francisco as well as Los Angeles have large fire boats, it would be a long run but I'm almost surprised at least the one from LA hasn't been requested. I believe it's quite similar to the 2 large boats that FDNY has.

I'm sure they do, also, all Navy ships have a complement of firefighters trained for shipboard firefighting. However, any fire aboard a ship is extremely difficult to fight because of all the compartments, bulkheads and other separations. Also overall access very difficult in many cases.

While I'm all for controlling pollution etc. at least in my opinion this is a terrible idea! Imagine getting to a scene of a major fire and not being able to use your truck because the batteries are discharged!! Maybe it would work for a rescue or something like that but it certainly doesn't...

My guess is it started out being because of the Aerialscope being mounted on a Mack chassis and they have you stuck with them ever since. I also wonder if the issue with Sutphen may be along the same lines as the reason that Pierce won't bid on FDNY equipment contracts.

Does Chicago have a mandated equipment replacement cycle with their union like FDNY does? I'm assuming they don't considering the apparatus being replaced will be 20 years old or more before most of it's replaced. Why has  the apparatus replacement been delayed for so long?
