    2/23/21 Queens 10-77 Box 4652

The infamous LeHarve buildings. Somewhere around 1960 there was a job on one of the upper floors and as a result of the fire, there was a civilian death. At that time, L144, the first due truck had a 1955 FWD 75' aerial rig. That 75 footer obviously couldn't reach the upper floors and of course...

FDNY and NYC Firehouses and Fire Companies - 2nd Section

I believe he meant East 176 street.

    Roosevelt Island Firehouse

I was referring to the one down by the Queensboro bridge that MSU was in during the 60's not the SOC house up near where the Training School used to be north of the Welfare Island Bridge. Sorry for any confusion.

    Roosevelt Island Firehouse

Yes sir. Each weekday morning at 0900 the bells would bang out 5-920-xxx or 7-920-xxx and those units would respond to the Welfare Island "Rock" for a day at the Training School.

    Roosevelt Island Firehouse

The firehouse by the tram I believe was built way after 1949. (I could be wrong) It housed the Mask Service Unit. The building was opposite the 59th street bridge and the base of the former elevator from the bridge. That building was the Department of Hospitals storehouse. Adjacent to the...

He was referring to the numbers on the grilles. Black for engines and red for truck companies. I was just giving you a comparison regarding the colors.

    New Seagraves

What 747 is referring to is from helmet front pieces that identify the company. Black panel with white numbers is for an engine company. Red panel with white numbers is for a ladder company. Blue panel with white numbers is for a rescue company. Yellow for Squad.

    A Tribute To Jack Supple

It finally dawned on me. It was a model of 323's Mack pumper.

    A Tribute To Jack Supple

Warren, years ago, and I do mean years ago, there was a photo of a model pictured toward the back pages of a WNYF. It was a scale model of E323 and my foggy brain thinks it was a '53 Ward 750 gpm rig. (Don't quote me on that.) I wonder if that was one of Jack's creations? My heartful condolences...

Thank you Mack! Very informative as always!

    Why were Engine's 264 and 328 combined?

ChiTown, many years ago E275, 298 and 299 were housed together with Ladder 127 and the 50th Battalion Chief on 162 street in Jamaica, Queens. My guess is that it was cheaper to build one house and each engine company had it's own first due boxes and administrative districts. I'm sure Mack or FD...
