it is my understanding all of the first batch of companies receiving the ladders have completed the training but none have received their rigs yet!

Trying to sort out the order, production and delivery schedule based on the Ferrara site, and FDNY orders.

(1) There will be a total of twenty in the original three year contract, based on orders for six, four and ten.

Corrected based on additional information from Florian Knight (8/14/2011)

I'm not sure where the notion of a 3 year order came from, but that can't be true.  Fabrication of these rigs started 6 or 8 months ago and they're all nearing completion.  All 20 rigs will be finished in the coming months.  Why they're not in service yet, I can't tell you.  I'll take a stab and say that they're a real departure from our current equipment and more familiarization work is needed.  There may very well be some fine tuning still needed.

I was at The Rock last month and one of the new rigs was sitting there.  Got to take a good look at it, nice rig, but there was a sign on the dash that said, "Do not drive or operate aerial, unit has not been accepted yet".

Other reasons....well, this is NYC, things don't happen that quickly!  :p

As for companies being trained on them; I can tell you, without a doubt, that all of the first 20 co's have not had familiarization training.  You'd think they would have gotten to all 20, but they haven't.

H-4617 is now numbered as L-165 on the "In Production" page, however it looks basically done with the exception of a few small details.

On a side note: I didn't realize the FDNY has their own customized mud flaps too!  8)

All of the older Seagraves originally had "Ladder Co. XXX" on the rear roll-up door when delivered, but some companies relettered them, such as Ladder 4.  I would expect "4 Truck" to do it again shortly after receiving the new rig.

With the influx of the new ferrara rearmounts, will the newer Seagraves,  such as Ladders 2, 25 and 103 be replaced by one, or will they keep their rig until its out of service date in 2016-2017??

Unless a company has a cronic problem with their rig, they will certainly keep the currently assigned rig until it's 10 (ish) years old.  There's no reason to pass over an older rig to replace one of the 2007s.

SECOND ADD ON ORDER BRINGS TOTAL TO 54 UNITS

Jack Lerch in the September/October issue of FAJ states that a second add on order for thirteen more 100' rear mount aerials has bee placed.

"This will make a total of 54 units.  The current three year contract was for twenty units, based onthree orders of six, four and ten. An add on order was approved for the building of twenty one units"

This additional order of 13 will allow replacement of all of the 1999. 2001, and 2002 units in front line service.
