Do the math and you see that between 550 and 600 firefighters responded to the scene at one point today. The majority of departments in this country don’t have that many total members. And only like 25 - 30 departments in this country have that many on duty at a time.
Very true.

Do you think that many have that many firefighters on duty at one time? I'm betting it's considerably less than that. I was thinking that Atlanta would have that many but their total staffing is only about 1200., Miami is only 2700, Boston 1500, Dallas 2000...

The only departments I found with staffing over 3000 members doing a quick search were; Houston 4000, LA 3300 & Chicago 5200. I'm sure there are others that I missed but these are the only ones I found doing a quick search.

I'm still trying to figure out who goes to the trouble of making a trench cut - and DOESN'T PULL IT?? And they wonder why it jumped the trench? That's because when you don't pull it, there IS NO trench! We used to pull the ceilings below the trench and have a charged line to protect the trench, either on the top floor or on the roof. This first trench cut was made at 2:00 pm. I'm wondering who ordered it not pulled, and why.

It may be they were waiting on the line to the roof as well as manpower below. As I understand it, because the fire apartment door was open, the top floor hallways were fully involved. And if the hallways were going, the trench cut may have been futile even if it had been pulled. Bottom line is if you weren't there, you can't judge the decisions made by those who were.

That is a good list detailing what Title is aligned with what car however I think there are several numbers on the list that are not dedicated FDNY vehicles but rather "call signs" to be used to contact the specific Official or agency....for example i don't think Car 90 is an actual FDNY vehicle but rather a "call sign" to contact the Mayoral staff in one of their agency vehicles.
