Seems like the adds are over coming the website

Every click you have to click out of 3 adds just to type or read something

Is there a way to prevent that?

I know advertising pays for the site. But has to be away to reduce it on the phone

I totally agree. I completely understand that the site needs an income stream to support it. I am very grateful to Tom for all he does to run and bring us this fantastic site. But when each selection brings down another add and sometimes when you clear the add it drops you back to where you first started, it is not only frustrating but also limits a members visits by choice. The add rate a year ago was very appropriate and tolerable. Never bothered me. Currently we experience an ad blizzard every time we log on and navigate thru the shoals of advertising.

Download the AdBlock Plus browser and use that instead of your current one. Ive had it for years and while it does make certain sites inaccessible if you dont let them do ads you can always whitelist the ones you trust.

On a desktop or laptop you can add it to Google Chrome as an add-on app and itll do the same thing. Its also a little less cumbersome to work with versus their mobile version.

Now of course Im not saying sites need their ad revenue to operate and the smaller ones need them most but it does help filter out the worst of the worst when it comes to the endless popups, mid-article ads and scammer jibberish.

I’m glad it’s not just me, the adds are infuriating lately. Have we ever visited a memberships fee? I’m sure some would hate it, but I’m sure if I added up what I spend weekly on coffee and energy drinks I’d be ok paying a fee to continue with the content here.

There’s the genesis of an idea. Maybe an option for ad free for those willing to pay a nominal annual subscription fee. Similar to what Pandora radio does. Either endure the ads or pay the nominal fee .

I suppose that a membership fee is always an option but think about this. As I write this, there are 498 people viewing this site (check out the home page, top right). That's 12members, 486 guests. If those guests are interested enough to look at the site, but don't want to join, what makes you think that they will come back if they've got to pay? The ad people pay based on the number of eyeballs they reach. What will happen to the ad income if the viewership drops off? If the software allows paid, ad free members that's a different story.

Totally agree. Was thinking about it as I closed 6 ads just to get to the “what’s new” page & found this post. Something’s gotta give.

I buy Merrell brand shoes. The Merrell shoes ad's cover my page. The only one that I have a problem with is the ad that creeps up from the bottom.

I use uBlock Origin on pc and 1Blocker on my mobile (ios) to block ads.

uBlock Origin is hands down the best adblocker I have ever used. I have had it installed for over a year and since then have not seen a single ad. I know that probably sounds a bit of an exaggeration, but no, it really does work that well. It's an extension for your browser, uses open source software and is completely free to use. You can access the code and documentation here; https://github.com/gorhill/uBlock, but for most people (me included) you can just download it from the following link: https://ublockorigin.com. It works on all chromium browsers (most popular ones listed below) and to make it even easier, I linked the browser to the download link so you can just click which one you use. The links take you to the web store for each browser.
Just be aware that there are non-original copies of it which use similar names and logos to try and trick you - don't use any other ones apart from these. Also a little side note - in the future it may not work effectively (or at all) due an update to browsers known as Manifest V3 (you can read more about that here: https://ublockorigin.com) and so you might have to change to uBlock Origin Lite which is a slightly different version.

As for 1Blocker, its only available as an app on ios, not android. It works pretty well but I have't used it for too long so can't say much about it. There is a paid version with more 'features' which I don't think is really needed - the free version works just fine. Another option for android users (and iphone users if you would prefer) is downloading the Firefox or Firefox Nightly browsers and adding uBlock Origin just like you would do on a computer. There are also other ad blocker apps you can use as well.

Sorry for the large amount of text, just trying to help some of you out :)
I am not very active on here so sorry if I miss any replies/questions.
