FDNY Pumpers awarded to KME

While the aluminum rims are definitely lighter which is an advantage they are also more prone to damage because aluminum is much softer than steel.  I've always heard that was one of the major reasons FDNY didn't use them.  Don't know if it's a true change in policy or maybe a trade-off they were willing to make to reduce the weight a little bit.

According to the NYCFireBuffs group on FB, Engine 153's new KME is now in service on SI. Lets see how it lasts! I hope to get up there and take some pics soon.

Engine 54's new Seagrave is also now in service .

And G-Man beats me to another one!  ;)
Disapointing report: I got there late in the afternoon (thank my wife and her "Honey Do List"), the sun was creating shadows and the rig was half out of quarters due to a mechanical issue  ;).  The mechanical problem was that a bolt from a kingpin was stick out in such a way that it would puncture a tire if the wheels were turned sharply. My photos show one of the two KME mechanics on the phone. They said if the rig might have to be put O.O.S.  The rig has responded to a half dozen runs but has not pumped water yet. The members love the looks, acceleration and ride.  The guy in the cab is a KME mechanic.

New Monster Truck is in? Nice! Much closer to me haha. And thanks for the pics Gman, rig is looking sharp. Nice to hear it runs smoothly and the members like it so far. 153/77 is one of the busiest houses on the island.

Anyone have any pictures of 54?

I also stopped by 153/77 last night, I had just missed the engine going out on an EMS run, while waiting for the engine to get back I spoke with the members of the truck, really nice guys. Moments after the engine returned from that run, both companies got a run for a odor of smoke in a private dwelling, second due. When they returned a member of the engine gave me a tour of the rig, very nice for a KME, lets see how they'll hold up.
Here's the video of them going on a run https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oS3Xp54ZV88

One's in service already?  I didn't even know companies had finished familiarization training.  I know Co's are out there doing it now, but no one I knew is that far along.
