FDNY Pumpers awarded to KME

I sure hope FDNY goes back to Seagrave soon for the pumpers.

The first KME hasn't rolled a mile on NYC streets and we're selling them out already?

Sounds like my father in the first inning of a Mets game when they're up 4-0...  :p  I kid, I kid...

So, what's the time frame now?  Who, what and when?

Chowson.....The is a member in my group that was at the KME plant recently....He said that it looked like there a few completed rigs and 5 or 6 cabs that were in different stages.  KME stated they would be able to produce 4 rigs per month. I had posted a ab list on this thread of the companys that were going to get them.

Thanks, I just went back through and reread that list.  Good stuff.  So we'll see the first delivery come July-ish maybe?

Engine 89 with their new rig at the Bronx third alarm on Lacombe ave today, 3rd due engine.

i have question. when each rig is complete and tested. Does KME hold on to the rig till FDNY is ready or does FDNY take them and put in a storage till the engine company is ready to receive them.

Well, the city doesn't buy us anything we don't need.  When it's ready, they issue it to the company.  When KME is finished and delivers it to the shops, there is still work to be done.  It has to be road tested, pump tested and all of the radios/MDT systems need to be installed.  So, when delivery to the shops is imminent, the company starts training for the new vehicle on Saturdays, 4 in a row.  With our schedule, 4 Saturdays should hit everyone in the company at least once.  On that 4th Saturday or very shortly after, the company takes delivery.  In that 3+/- weeks, all testing and final installations take place.  Now that CTS has it's own rig, training will be conducted on that and not a vehicle that is ready for another company.

Interesting, so they're coming along I guess.  There are some cosmetics to get used to, but I think they're decent looking enough.  This has nothing to do with function, but I see they used Alcoa rims.  I wonder why the spec or the manufacturer went this route.

From a more practical perspective, I'm anxious to get to see one in person and work with one to see how it functions.

I've worked in one of the newest Seagrave engines and it rolls like it's floating on air, smooth as can be.  It also accelerates very well compared to the early 2000 Seagraves.  The pump is smooth and easy, but a little more complicated.  KME?  Time will tell.

It is possible they went with Alcoa rims because they are aluminum, I know in the large commerical truck industry they have been trending more toward the aluminum rims because they generally weigh a lot less than steel rims,  generally speaking you can shave a couple hundred pounds and from what I here it is supposed to be better on braking being ligher however aluminum rims like alcoas are generally more expensive than steel rims. I'm not sure why but there was a batch I think of the  2001-2002 ??? (Possibly the 9/11 replacement order) Seagrave engines and trucks that came with aluminum rims, not sure if it was an availability issue or they were just trying something new but they did go back to the steel rims until now

E-153 had new apparatus training at The Rock on Wednesday......a few weeks and it should be in service
