Well you didn't visit my house we have had a lot of problems with our ferrera. I for one are not a fan of how the new tower ladders and engines have there layout

Unfortunately, the layout was not designed by the manufacturer of the apparatus. It is designed (for the most part) by the department receiving the apparatus. Nobody to blame but yourself (or should we say the apparatus committee)!

We have had our Ferrara for about 2 months now. It is part of the 2nd order.  We have not had any issues putting ours out of service.  (knock on wood). It runs fine. They have come to do some preventative things though.

The seating and room in the back are nice. The stearing on the rig is a little different. Something the chauffers have to get used to. I think our main complaint is that the aerial is much slower raising it out of the bed.

Yea I know it's the commitee that makes the changes it isn't my first rodeo. They design the t/l and engines like that but not the new ferreras trust me I'm happy they didn't.

The steering takes a little more effort than our seagrave I used to be able to turn it with a finger.  Can't really do it in the ferrera

Any Ideas who will be up first for new rigs

Hurricane  if you go back ( I dont have it in front of me right now ) and look at the way the seagraves were given out that should give you a pretty good idea of the order the new KMEs will be assigned to companys........The last company was 231......Companys that still have the 2002 will get them in the order following 231.........I think the first 20 or so new KMEs will replace the remaining 2002 seagraves........

You got to remember the 05/06 rear mounts the engine is further back putting less weight on the front axl so it makes it easier to turn.  The new ladders the engine is forward putting more weight on the axl so turning makes it a bit tough.  Its all the same steering boxes on these trucks, its just a matter of weight.  We had the same complaints with the new seagrave pumpers when delivered .

With the turntable mounted further back putting more weight behind the axles, how does the rear feel on turns on the Ferrara rearmounts? ???

R1SmokeEater.............This could only happen in the FDNY world of make beleive............Rumors already that there might be add-ons to the KME order...........FDNY will hopefully be getting the first new pumper by the end of this year only if the committee approves it.........Maybe the add-ons will replace the 2008's by the time everything is in place

I have been hearing some rumors about the KMEs also ...... One rumor is that it may be 18 months before the "prototype" is completed and ready for inspection ..... another rumor is that due to this delay there will in fact be add-ons to A pumper order.

another rumor is the order has been knocked down to 30 or so pumpers for the first year.  kinda like a test period.  like i said in the past, don't really think the whole order will see the light of day.  The warranty is going to put them under.  there is good reason why these pumpers where almost $200.000 cheaper.  kme is a family owned business with no share holder backing them.

Sorry, I meant rumor "we" (YFD) may add on to the FDNY spec'd KME order......
We did this with the 80s/90s Mack pumpers and TLs.
Wait so you're saying Yonkers might go with KME?

The Kovatch Family is into a lot of different businesses.  They have deep pockets.  When they were working their way through warranty issues in Philly, they would run the rigs back to the factory one or two at a time.  Nesquehoning is probably as close to New York as it is to Philly.  The FDNY warranty will certainly be a challenge for them but KME is one of THE BIG BOYS in the fire apparatus now.  The techs in the Philly Shops always said how easy they were to work on too but that was with the full tilt cab.

I think there are members that misunderstood your last post......This topic regarding the KMEs  has to do only with the FDNY correct........A few guys thought the KME order involves Yonkers....

If the new KME order was changed from 91 to 30 there must be alot of paperwork involved......KME signed a contact for 91 pumpers not 30......If this new number is correct I am glad to see the job is doing it the correct way finally..

The last thing that FDNY needs is another mess like the Ferrara  rearmounts..

I heard that it went from 91 down to 30 twice now but nothing concrete.  Hear it from 2 different guys.

I for one would be very glad to see the total number for the first year to be 30.......There would now have to be a new contact drawn up.......Add ons can be done

42 Truck did just fine with there's through the snow, and they spent the night in the Rockaways.  The first few have had hiccups, but things seem to be settling in nicely.  After a few of the, spent time OOS, they've been trouble free since return.

Far from a mess......
