FDNY Pumpers awarded to KME

As far as the remaining 5 new KMEs after that l have no clue as to whom they will assigned to since the next company's to get new rigs have 2008 Seagraves and they really don't need replacements unit 2018....
That is a great question.  Maybe we can start a rumor that they are going to be assigned to 5 new companies that are going to be formed!  Of course we all know that isn't going to happen.  From what I've read the spare pool for engines is not that bad of shape is it?

009? is this correct?
My  guess is that the  "009"  was questioned  because of the way it was written  using 3 digets  009  in stead of  simply  " 9 "  as it appears on the  apparatus.

Heard a rumor floating around at the Wildwood Show last weekend that DCAS asked KME about add ons and KME said NO THANK YOU.

The Department of Citywide Administrative Services (DCAS) ensures that City agencies have the critical resources and support needed to provide the best possible services to the public. Specifically, the agency:

supports City agencies' workforce needs in recruiting, hiring and training City employees;
provides overall facilities management for 50 public buildings;
purchases, sells and leases real property;
purchases, inspects and distributes supplies and equipment;
establishes, audits and pays utility accounts that serve more than 4,000 buildings;
implements energy conservation programs throughout City facilities.

ok, thanks.    so, if that is accurate,  what does it mean?  KME  said  " NO THANK YOU"

If the rumor is true, its means NYC asked KME if they would build more pumpers at the same price as the current contract but KME declined. So it can mean two things; 1.KME wants addition money (above the current contract price) for each additional unit, or 2, KME is not interested in building any more pumpers for FDNY.

Fair business practices would require a competitive bid if there are no options for any add-on? Yes?

Add-ons units can be ordered while the contract is still current. The contract has a specific date and time when the last unit must arrive and be accepted. The current contract with KME is coining to a close very soon, I think there is less than 10 pumpers to be delivered. After the contract is fulfilled and expired, the competitive bid process starts all over again for the next order of apparatus.

Since the contact expires on November 30th of this year the 91st pumper must be at the shops and accepted by 2359 hrs...... Even if there was a request for add ons l couldn't understand why since the next pumper replacements are due in 2018.  As you are aware KMEs contact was for 91 pumpers.  E 166s new KME just had there radio programmed at the radio shop on Fri 9/25...  After that there are 7 more pumpers that are already assigned to units ( E 229 - 009 - 068 - 308 - 320 - 305 & the last being E 168 which will replace there 2006 Seagrave....At that point there will be 5 remaining pumpers that have still not been assigned to any units....As l stated above after E 168 the next pumpers needing replacement will be the 2008 Seagraves.  I personally don't think they would start replacing the 2008s with a 2016 KME.  If they do they will.be replacing some company's that only have there Seagraves with 8 years of front line service.  When l find out about the last 5 New KMEs l will post it...

Is it known IF there is such an add-on option in the present contract?
I am under the impression that all fdny appratus contracts come with an option or ad on's however depending on the contract the manufacturer could refuse the additional units which appears to be the case
AuxWarYearsCapt do you know of any engine Lemons out there like the Ferrara ladders that were replaced early to help boost the spare pool however I imagine with 91 new engines that the engine spare and reserve fleets had some decent units added to the pool

Could they be replacing the Govonors Island Engine ?? (2002 American LaFrance 1000 Gpm engine) that's the only engine I can think of that they may want to replace however I assume that that would be replaced with a use engine if it even need replacing at all

That's true but also as AuxWarYearsCapt said, the contract expires in November of this year and the add-ons could not be ordered after that time.  A new contract would have to be negotiated.

Doug

Are the last five in production?

As far as Govonors Island l was recently told that it's under the government. I would not think that the FDNY would contuine to place apparatus there.

There have been no LEMONS that would need replacement like the Ferrara rear mounts. I have.hear nothing about replacing any KMEs that are already in front line service.

Kevin total turn a round from start to finish for building the KMEs is 1 month...KME was starting 1 truck per week the last l was told. I would think the last 5 units would be started in.the near future....
