The military is exempt?  CONSTRUCTION EQUIPMENT  is exempt, but fire apparatus isn't?????  Seems like throwing the baby out with the bath water to me.  I plan on writing my representatives in Congress.  Anybody else?

I hadn't realized that construction equipment was exempt from the regulations.  It certainly seems like fire apparatus should be exempt if construction equipment is!  Sound like the EPA needs to get a wakeup call!

Construction equipment is not considered to be on road service.

So what difference does that make?  The emissions still end up in the same place no matter where they are working!  Sounds like the construction industry just had some better lobbyists than the fire service did.

Don't shoot the messenger. Off road equipment is not included for reasons I do not know. I think you can include farm equipment in that group too.

I think it has to do with these vehicles not being registered for on road use.

Rescue 5's is OOS again and the funny thing is they kept the old E-One in the lot accross the street so they have it on hand for everytime the Ferrara goes OOS.

Could be worse ...  The City of Trenton NJ received their new Pierce Mobile Command Unit last year, but last I heard it has still never been put in service and in fact was shipped back to Wisconsin.

::) Here we go....another fanboy.  R1 goes O.O.S., just all the rusting heaps made by Seagrave.  Maybe the Ferrara's will suck, but that'll just be like all the other gear we have.

Mr Bopp, Im not a fan of anything. I just have experience with both Pierce, Seagrave, and ferrara with my career department. My career dept doesnt come close to the call volume that the fdny does. The city of Pittsburgh recieved 4 Ferrara rearmount ladders in 2000. My company recieved on of these new ladders and from day one there was more problems with ours and the other 3 that the city had. We used a 17 year old spare more then we used our brand new rig. Pierce and seagrave seem to hold up very well. Im not saying that Rescue1 doesnt go out of service! But i dont think its as often or has the problems that all of the new rigs have. You say that seagrave are rust buckets that may be so after 8 to 10 years of hard use but if you may remember the macks were rust buckets but other then that were one of the best rigs going in there time. Seagrave has seemed to hold up well with the fdny and takes the abuse and wear and tear thats what makes them good trucks. What im saying is other then minor issues there is no excuse for a now rig to have the problems as these ones do. In 2009 the City of Pittsburgh recieved Pierce and Seagrave rearmount ladders and the 4 Ferrara ladders were placed out of service and have since been taken off the roster as they were not reliable enough to be used as spares after 9 years. So maybe that should tell what kind of rig Ferrara is.
