Seagrave Marauder II Pumpers

Why are they starting on 2002 rigs already? Why not wait until 2012 or at least end of 2011 to order them since we need the money? ???
considering all the possible delays that could happen like with what was happening with the tower ladders i guess they did it before schedule rather then waiting and having front line engines older then 10 years

Remember, Rigs take about 8-10 months to complete. Seagrave has about a 10 month build time.

If the squads are to be replaced, they will need to be spec'd out separately. Im sure the will be a little bit more $ than the regular engines.

E 55 received its new Marauder II on 1/11/11
E 28 on 1/21/11,  this is the 19th unit on the order of 28

E 23 and 69 were delivered to the shops

saw E81 driving around in a real big piece of crap loaner rig at least 12 years old the other week and then saw it again yesterday. anyone have any info on what the extended problem is with their own?

After having rig for almost 21 months with no issues, rear end got loose causing lot of sway, looks like attachments to frame need to be fixed. Rig is in NJ as of last report getting whatever repairs are needed. Spare is a 2000 Seagrave not sure of who had the rig in regular service. Hopefully E-81 will return soon.

Just wondering if anybody has heard of major issues with the motor mounts.  E-237 was relocated into E-319 a few days ago and they were using a spare  2000 seagrave pumper.  I spoke to one of the guys and he stated that they only have had the there new rig a few months and the motor mount went. The engine was leaning to one side and there was a screaling noise all the time from the belt. The mechanic told them that this is now a big problem with the motor mounts and that they would get there rig back in approx. 8 months...........The ran into a friend of mine who is a mechanic at the shops yesterday and he stated that rigs were lined up at the dealer in New Jersery, both FDNY and vollies.  He said there is a warranty issued and that the job will not be ordering Seagraves when the next order is placed for new rigs....Sounds like Ferrara is the new front runner............Bring back the real rigs  "MACKS"

the spare fleet is going to get a real workout from these new rigs And this might be a stupid question but how are they sure that Seagrave wont get the low bid next round of bids? (BTW when are the next round of bids for engines?) I thought the city had to go with the lowest bidder.

Yes I am aware that the bid usually goes to the lowest bidder. I think that now that Ferrara was given a larger than usual contract for the rearmounts, I hope Ferrara is the lowest bidder.  I beleive that all of the HP pumpers that they made are still holding up very well and they are not out going out of service for real major issues. I think whatever the FDNY has to do to get the next pumper order thru Ferrara, the FDNY will do.  And yes I also did a doubletake when told that it would take 8 months to do the motor mounts. I think there is something more behind it, possibly
warranty issues............Well we will see when the next order of pumpers are awarded.

Carefully written specs can eliminate any particular manufacturer or direct the contract to a specific manufacturer.  All depends on what the spec says.

8 months for motor mounts?
There certainly has to be more to it than that.  Motor mounts are not that difficult to replace especially in a truck like this with the tilting cab.  Unless they're going to completely redesigned the motor mounts and make new ones to replace them all in all of the trucks there's obviously something else big going on!  Maybe we will hear something else soon.

Who is supposed to receive on this year?

According to Redlight:  " Engine 23 (SP10020) is still waiting assignment, with seven additional units, of the total order of twenty-eight, still not delivered. They are scheduled for assignment to Engines 298, 280, 222, 210, 236, 241, and 231 in that order."

E23's present rig is really adorned, I wonder if the new one will be decked out like that?

Would look good if it were, cant see any reason why not, E63's rig is all done up.

I understand that the current E 23 was donated by Time Warner, one of the reasons its all decked out.
