Makes me wonder if they had kept E11 in service until the new E. 2nd St. firehouse a couple of blocks away was completed. Would it have been Engine 11 Ladder 11 instead of E28 L11? ???

      It looks like 21 got TL138's 1979 Mack TL (#MT7908) right after 138 had received a new 1984 Mack TL (#MT8412). Then in 1986, TL21 got a brand new 1985 Mack TL #MT8504. :)

Engine 41's original 2 story wood frame firehouse at 2801 Third Ave. just south  of 148th St. still stands today as a small store that sells African items.

Engine 83's 1947 ALF (front/left) and 1959 Mack (rear/right) operating at the 1961 "Ice House fire" at 137th St. & Rider Ave. Ladder 29's aerial with two ladderpipes is seen on the right side of the 2nd photo. The aerial on the left was a 1959-60 Mack/Maxim, either L14 or L30.

That firehouse was one of my favorites to visit back around 1960-64 because they kept three pumpers there. E83's pumper was a 1959 Mack C-95 1000gpm (#1024), their hosewagon was a 1947 American LaFrance (#9025 ex-E220) 750gpm "bathtub" that we kids used to sit in, and a 1954 Ward LaFrance...

Lt. Frank Pellegrino is a fellow musician who I've worked on DooWop shows with. He played tenor sax for Reperratta and the Del-Rons. Last time I saw him was a few years back, when he was promoted to Captain of E91 in "El Barrio".  ;)

      Yes, box 1393 @ Victory & Jewett in 1957 would've had a 1st alarm response of E163, E157, L83 & L80. E166/L86 who are 2nd due today were organized in 1963 so E163/L83 and L80 had a lot of real estate to cover back then. ;)

This looks like a 1950's Staten Island job where I see E163's 1938 Ahrens-Fox 500gpm wagon, Rescue 5's converted 1940's WLF hosewagon/rescue and L80's 1953 ALF 85ft. aerial up with a wooden aerial behind it. L80 was the only metal aerial on Staten Island until 1960, when L77 got a 1960 Mack...

      The location appears to be West 35th looking west towards Broadway & Ave. of the Americas and yes, the men carrying roll-ups look like E65 that would've been 3rd due on box 723 @Broadway & W. 35th St. E26, E1, E65, L24, L21, Bn7. The 1954 Mack was either E26 (#1109) or E1 (#1089). E65 didn't...

Nothing beats E89/L39 which were both organized at 1799-1st Avenue on Feb 1, 1909 then disbanded Jan. 1, 1916 with E89 getting reorganized as E91-2 and L39 moving up to the Bronx replacing Combination Engine Co. 69 on E. 233rd St.  ;)

After 2nd section of E80 was disbanded in 1915 their big 2-bay firehouse had lots of room.  ;)

Photo is of L26's 1953 Pirsch rolling out of their old 52 E. 114th St. firehouse. Three 1953 Pirsch 85ft. aerials were originally assigned to 26, 31 & 123. FDNY specs at that time asked for NO cab doors.
